In a bid to widen its popularity in terms of services and strengthen its position in South Florida as it continues to grow at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), JetBlue Airways (JBLU) announced the multi-year extension of its partnership with the Florida Panthers.
Beginning with the 2026–2027 NHL season, JetBlue will remain the Panthers’ official airline while also becoming the presenting partner of the revamped Champions Club at Amerant Bank Arena. The agreement also introduces JetBlue Landing, a new fan-focused destination designed to offer exclusive experiences and engagement opportunities throughout the season.
The partnership expansion aligns with JetBlue’s consistent growth in the region. To this end, the airline has recently added 11 new destinations and increased service on several popular routes from FLL. Beginning July 9, JBLU will operate nearly 130 daily departures to more than 55 nonstop destinations from FLL, with plans to exceed 150 daily flights by the end of the year. JBLU also aims to provide 34 daily departures from West Palm Beach.
Set to launch ahead of the 2026–2027 season, JetBlue Landing will serve as a new gathering space at Amerant Bank Arena, featuring exclusive events, special programming and unique opportunities for fans to connect with the team both on game days and throughout the year. The interesting thing is that the future still looks incredibly promising.
GE Aerospace had a great first quarter
In the first quarter of 2026, GE Aerospace posted adjusted revenue growth of 29% year over year. That drove adjusted earnings-per-share growth of 25% and adjusted cash flow growth of 14%. It was a very strong quarter for a business that serves an industry that is under significant strain today.

For example, Spirit Airlines was forced into bankruptcy for the second time. And this time, it chose to liquidate rather than attempt a comeback. It isn't the only company facing financial stress, noting that the founder of JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU) has warned that the airline could end up in bankruptcy court, too, even though the company's current CEO disputes that claim. Still, the impact of higher jet fuel prices on the airlines that buy jet engines from GE Aerospace can't be ignored. And yet GE Aerospace continues to post strong financial results.
GE Aerospace's future looks quite bright
In fact, despite the headwind of high jet fuel costs caused by the geopolitical conflict in the Middle East, GE Aerospace saw its orders grow 87% year over year in the first quarter. Building jet engines takes time, so orders often happen well in advance of delivery. And all the engines out there still need to be maintained, which supports the company's service revenues. All in, GE Aerospace's backlog stood at $210 billion. Of that total, $170 billion is related to services, which are an annuity-like income stream.
In fact, the company is so well-positioned right now that management expects to hit the high end of its full-year guidance in 2026. Given the importance of service-related revenues, that optimism seems entirely reasonable. No wonder the stock has been on a fairly steady ascent since General Electric was broken into three businesses in early 2024.
While it is impossible to predict whether investors will continue buying GE Aerospace stock, given its lofty 40x price-to-earnings ratio, the company's huge backlog certainly suggests the business will remain robust for the foreseeable future. And if that's the case, growth investors seem unlikely to suddenly abandon the shares.

JetBlue Airways’ JBLU planned launch of nonstop service between Fort Lauderdale and Caracas, representing strategic expansion into a market with strong pent-up demand while marking the airline’s first-ever entry into Venezuela. The route would strengthen JBLU’s position in Latin America and the Caribbean. This would allow the carrier to tap into the large Venezuelan community in South Florida, where demand for visiting-friends-and-relatives travel remains significant.
The announcement also aligns with JetBlue’s broader growth strategy in Fort Lauderdale, which has become one of the airline’s most important gateways. The carrier recently unveiled its largest-ever schedule from the airport, including 11 new destinations and nearly 130 daily departures during the summer. By adding Caracas, JBLU continues to expand connectivity across the Americas while reinforcing Fort Lauderdale’s role as a key hub for its international network.
The proposed service comes as U.S. carriers gradually return to Venezuela following years of limited operations. JetBlue’s entry into the market could help diversify its international revenue base and strengthen its competitive position in South Florida, particularly as airlines seek growth opportunities in underserved Latin American routes. The use of Airbus A320 aircraft and JBLU’s customer-focused onboard offerings could further enhance its appeal among leisure and diaspora travelers.
However, the route remains subject to regulatory approvals and operational clearances in Venezuela, making the timeline dependent on government processes. If approved, the service would not only expand JetBlue’s geographic reach but also support its long-term strategy of allocating capacity toward higher-demand markets, with stronger connectivity and growth potential.

JetBlue Expands Network Reach as It Eyes Entry Into Venezuela

In a bid to widen its popularity in terms of services, JetBlue Airways (JBLU) and United Airlines Holdings, Inc. (UAL) announced the offering of reciprocal loyalty benefits and perks for both TrueBlue and MileagePlus members, traveling with either airline, through the Blue Sky collaboration. The aforesaid offering is set to start this week.
The merger of the airlines’ reciprocal loyalty benefits comes on the back of the successful launch of JetBlue and United Airlines’ interline agreement and sales (which enables customers to earn and redeem points and book flights on either carrier’s website).
Members of each loyalty program are entitled to both airlines' benefits, which include respective priority boarding, extra legroom seating, priority check-in and security, free checked bag, complimentary preferred seat selection after booking and same-day standby options.
Ed Pouthier, JetBlue’s vice president of loyalty and personalization, stated, “We are always looking for new ways to elevate the experience for our most loyal customers and this latest enhancement to our Blue Sky collaboration offers even greater value to our brand loyal customers. With more ways to earn and redeem, more destinations to explore across both airline networks, and now reciprocal benefits, Blue Sky delivers unmatched value for our most loyal customers. We’re elevating the travel experience by bringing seamless, meaningful perks to life across both airlines."

McDonald's
At first blush, McDonald's (NYSE: MCD) would seem like a beneficiary of tighter budgets. After all, it's a value-priced alternative to more expensive "sit-down" restaurants. The fast-food chain also reported 3.8% growth in last quarter's worldwide same-store sales, confirming it's still drawing a crowd.
Some cracks in the company's marketability are starting to show, however. Much of last quarter's growth was driven by lower-priced value-oriented items on its menu. As CEO Christopher Kempczinski said about the deteriorating economic backdrop, during McDonald's first-quarter earnings conference call: "I think probably it's fair to say that it's getting -- it's certainly not improving, and it may be getting a little bit worse."
It almost sounds like a warning based on what he's seen since the end of March.
Dollar General
Dollar General (NYSE: DG) is another name that superficially seems like it should be a beneficiary of economic malaise, as consumers opt for its lower prices instead of shopping at Target or Walmart.
That's not quite where Dollar General sits in consumers' spending rationales, however. Walmart already offers the lowest prices on most consumer staples. Dollar General's chief appeal is geographical proximity to lower-income shoppers, mostly in rural communities. When money gets tight, a wide swath of its customer base simply stops spending altogether, as there is no viable "trade-down" option for those consumers, or for the retailer.
That was certainly what the company experienced back in 2023, coming out of the pandemic funk into a period of tough inflation. That year's total sales only improved 2.2%, and same-store sales essentially stagnated while many other companies were thriving amid the economic recovery underway at the time.
JetBlue Airways
Finally, while high fuel prices recently forced budget airline Spirit to wind down its operations, it's not the only name in the airline business to operate on the edge of insolvency in an effort to be as price-competitive as possible. JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ: JBLU) is in a similar boat, and likely to show similar strain when it reports the current quarter's results near the end of July.
We're already seeing red flags, in fact. Despite a 5% improvement in total revenue during the first quarter, JetBlue's operating loss widened by 28.5%, to the tune of $224 million, for the three months in question -- mostly due to higher fuel costs, even though only the last one of those three months actually suffered soaring fuel prices because of the conflict in Iran.
Notably, JetBlue Airways no longer engages in the sort of fuel price hedging that would have allowed it to stave off the fiscal impact of the higher fuel costs that it's facing now. If oil prices remain at current levels, JetBlue's losses will almost certainly continue to widen.

If you're interested in what SpaceX has to offer, you might want to consider Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) instead. Although Amazon is known for e-commerce and increasingly for artificial intelligence (AI), it's in the middle of launching a broadband satellite business similar to SpaceX's Starlink that opens up a massive new revenue stream.
Introducing Amazon Leo
Amazon has been working on a satellite business called Project Kuiper, which it has recently renamed Amazon Leo. It's a satellite broadband company offering high-speed internet services across the globe, including rural areas not covered by standard services. It's in the process of acquiring Globalstar, which will provide access to direct-to-consumer services on its network.
Amazon plans to launch Leo in the coming months and already has deals with Delta and JetBlue for in-flight Wi-Fi, as well as other companies, including AT&T and Vodafone. It will also provide satellite service for iPhones and Apple Watches.
It recently completed its 10th satellite launch and now has more than 250 satellites in orbit. It's planning 20 more launches within the next year and 30 more in 2027.
CEO Andy Jassy sees a strong symbiosis between Leo and Amazon Web Services (AWS), which makes both more powerful, and he said Amazon is front-loading spending on the project because it expects it to be a huge business.
It competes directly with SpaceX's Starlink, which, according to reports, represents the bulk of SpaceX's revenue today. It's a much bigger business, with more than 7,800 satellites in orbit and 2.7 million customers worldwide. It's also the dominant global rocket launcher, which a business Amazon isn't investing in at this time.
Why Amazon might be a better buy
There are several concerns about investing in SpaceX at its IPO. There's the overhype that often leads to a post-IPO drop, valuation concerns, and general uncertainty right now -- especially because its financial statements are still private at this stage. Elon Musk and his responsibilities at Tesla add risk as well.
Amazon, on the other hand, is a known entity, with several thriving and profitable businesses. It's nearing a $3 trillion valuation, with $742 billion in sales, while SpaceX is targeting a valuation of up to $2 trillion. If I had to choose one over the other, Amazon is the no-brainer winner, and I would revisit SpaceX at some point down the line.

While bankruptcy can help companies reduce leverage and trim costs, that doesn't mean the business's problems have been resolved. Buying a stock that has just emerged from bankruptcy is a high-risk investment decision. Only the most aggressive investors should consider such a move. It isn't at all uncommon for companies to go from Chapter 11 bankruptcy to Chapter 22, as Spirit did.
That's a finance industry joke, with Chapter 22 simply indicating a second bankruptcy. However, the point is that most investors should watch from the sidelines until a company has proven it has turned the corner before buying into it as it emerges from bankruptcy. Spirit is just the latest example of the risks that come with companies that go through bankruptcy.
2. It is bad when a struggling company's merger falls apart
JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU) had agreed to buy Spirit, but the deal was effectively scuttled by regulators. That merger was akin to Spirit throwing a Hail Mary pass, as the airline looked to salvage something for shareholders. When that deal collapsed, the risk profile of investing in Spirit rose dramatically.
That it eventually ended up in bankruptcy court isn't the least bit surprising. In fact, the same thing happened to iRobot after its deal with Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) fell apart. You should tread with extreme caution when you see the Hail Mary pass from any struggling company fall short.
3. Leverage is a business killer
One of the key things that pushed Spirit into bankruptcy was high jet fuel prices, a byproduct of the geopolitical conflict unfolding in the Middle East. However, the real issue was leverage. The company's debt levels left it with little room to maneuver in the face of adversity. That's not uncommon in bankruptcy situations, but such risks are often well known prior to bankruptcy.
Specifically, for transportation stocks, investors need to pay close attention to balance sheets. This is because the assets required to operate a transportation business, such as an airline, are extremely expensive. If you own an airline stock, you should probably double-check its leverage, ability to cover interest costs, and get a sense of the magnitude of near-term maturities. Some industry watchers suggest that both JetBlue and Frontier Group (NASDAQ: ULCC) face elevated bankruptcy risk. (In hindsight, it might be a good thing that JetBlue didn't buy Spirit.)
In other words, don't assume that Spirit Airlines is the only airline that will be pushed into bankruptcy. Rising fuel costs could upend other airlines, as well.

3 Lessons for Transportation Industry Investors Following Spirit Airlines' Bankruptcy

What are the smartest business moves of all time? Amazon's (NASDAQ: AMZN) decision to expand into cloud services has to rank near the top of the list. Amazon Web Services (AWS) now has an annualized revenue run rate of $150 billion. It generates nearly 60% of Amazon's total operating income.
Now, Amazon could be about to have a new AWS-like business on its hands. CEO Andy Jassy told analysts in his company's fiscal 2026 first-quarterearnings callthat Amazon Leo, which will soon provide satellite internet services, is "reminiscent of AWS" in some ways. Given AWS's impact on Amazon's stock trajectory, investors should be paying close attention to the company's latest endeavor.

A lot to like about Leo
Amazon plans to launch its satellite internet service commercially in the third quarter of 2026. However, the company has already launched over 250 satellites. Amazon Leo has also already landed an impressive list of customers, including AT&T (NYSE: T), Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL), JetBlue (NASDAQ: JBLU), and NASA.
The pending acquisition of Globalstar (NASDAQ: GSAT) enabled Amazon Leo to pick up an especially important customer -- Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL). Leo will power satellite services for iPhones and Apple Watches using Globalstar's direct-to-device capabilities.
Amazon Leo will be a little late to the space party. Elon Musk's SpaceX owns Starlink, which provides satellite internet services to 10 million customers. However, Jassy noted in Amazon's Q1earnings callthat billions of people worldwide still don't have broadband access. He said, "I am very bullish about Amazon Leo and the opportunity there."
Jassy also thinks that Amazon Leo will have competitive advantages that differentiate it from Starlink. He stated in the Q1 call, "I think we will be about 2x better on the downlink than existing alternatives and about 6x better on the uplink performance than existing alternatives." Jassy added that Leo will also offer customers a cost advantage.
Why investors should pay attention
Leo will give Amazon yet another growth engine. Jassy thinks that it "has a chance to be a very large, many-billion-dollar revenue business." Exactly how many billions of dollars in revenue Amazon Leo might eventually rake in remains to be seen. However, Fortune Business Insights projects that the global satellite internet market will increase by a compound annual growth rate of 17% to $33.4 billion by 2034.
Importantly, the economics of Amazon Leo are likely to improve with scale. Building satellite constellations is expensive. Once they're full deployed, though, adding new customers has only a small incremental cost. Leo's profits could soar over time.
Offering satellite internet services could also boost AWS' revenue. Jassy said that governments and enterprises say they want to store data from the satellite constellation in the cloud, perform analytics on it, and use it in AI models. As a result, he believes the combination of Amazon Leo and AWS will be "very compelling" to these customers.
Jassy told CNBC's Jim Cramer this week that Amazon Leo "completely changes what's possible for people in rural areas." He thinks that Amazon's e-commerce business will benefit from expanded internet access to rural customers. While Jassy didn't go into more detail, it's easy to envision how Amazon could make Leo more enticing to residential customers by bundling satellite internet with Prime Video or Amazon Music.
AWS déjà vu?
Could Amazon Leo be another AWS? I wouldn't go that far. The market opportunity for Leo likely won't be as large as AWS's. However, there are striking similarities between the two businesses.
Most importantly, Amazon won't be an e-commerce stock with a cloud business going forward. It will instead be a global technology infrastructure stock that also happens to be the world's largest consumer discretionary company by market cap. This transition is definitely worthy of investors' attention.

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy Thinks This New Mega-Business Is Like AWS. Here's Why Investors Should Be Paying Attention.

The biggest cause of the company's demise is the rising cost of jet fuel. Due to the Middle East war and the oil supply shock that followed, the price of airline fuel has essentially doubled since the war began in late February, from $85-$90 to $150-$200.
Of course, Spirit was already in bankruptcy, its second in two years. But it was attempting to turn the business around and emerge from Chapter 11. Rising fuel prices put an end to those efforts.
The question now is, what's next for Spirit investors?
Shareholders are last in line to get paid in a liquidation
When a company is liquidated, its assets are sold to pay its debts. And there's a hierarchy of creditors.
At the top of that list are secured creditors, because they have claims on specific collateral (in this case, aircraft, which are real assets that can be sold and flown to their new owners). Then, administrative expenses such as court costs must be paid. Then come the unsecured creditors, like vendors and suppliers, to whom the bankrupt company owes money. These creditors won't get all they're owed if there's not enough left after paying secured creditors.
Unfortunately for Spirit shareholders, they will be last in line to get paid. And in this case, they're likely to get nothing for their shares.
Before the spike in fuel prices, the company was expecting to exit its latest bankruptcy by summer, having restructured billions of dollars in debt with creditors.
The airline also attempted to engineer several mergers with other airlines to save itself. The latest potential deal was with JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ: JBLU), but the Biden administration opposed it on antitrust grounds, and a federal judge agreed, preventing the merger from going forward.
So, Spirit was struggling for years, and its stock dwindled from more than $7 a share a year ago to about $0.28 a share in April.
Yet when the White House in late April floated the idea of lending Spirit $500 million to help it survive, shares of the airline jumped to more than $1.80. The White House backed away from a bailout, and Spirit's shares have since fallen back to about $0.27 each.
In the end, however, current shareholders won't even get that for their shares. There are very likely too many secured and unsecured creditors ahead of them.
All airlines are suffering from fuel costs
Other airlines are also struggling with elevated fuel prices. Some have been able to pass on the higher fuel costs to passengers. Indeed, the average airfare for an international flight out of the U.S. has climbed 37% since the war on Iran began. Some carriers have also canceled flights to save on fuel.
Low-cost carriers suffer the most when fuel costs rise, as their margins are already razor-thin. But big carriers are also reporting damage from the spike in jet fuel. American Airlines Group (NASDAQ: AAL) said it could lose money this year due to fuel costs, and United Airlines Holdings (NASDAQ: UAL) slashed its profit outlook.
All in all, the immediate future does not look rosy for airlines or their shareholders.

Spirit Airlines is Going Out of Business. Here's What's Next for Investors.

JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ:JBLU), a low-cost airline, closed Friday at $4.86, up 4.40%. The stock moved higher as traders reacted to news that beleaguered rival Spirit Airlines may not have secured its hoped-for bailout.
Trading volume reached 48.4 million shares, coming in about 88% above its three-month average of 25.7 million shares. JetBlue Airways IPO'd in 2002 and has fallen 56% since going public.
How the markets moved today
The S&P 500 added 0.29% to finish Friday at 7,230, while the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.89% to close at 25,114. Among airline stock peers, Southwest Airlines closed up 2.22% at $38.76, and Alaska Air Group fell 1.43% to end at, underscoring mixed sentiment across the airlines group.
What this means for investors
High fuel prices driven by tensions in the Middle East have pressured JetBlue and other airlines. The stock has fallen almost 8% in the past five days. It missed analyst targets in its Q1 earnings earlier this week, reporting higher-than-expected losses.
However, plans to recapture 30%-40% of higher fuel costs through pricing, fuel efficiency, and ancillary fees went down relatively well with Wall Street. The stock rose despite the earnings miss, and analysts at Susquehanna just raised their price target from $4 to $5, while maintaining their “Neutral” rating.
News that the proposed $500 million government rescue deal for Spirit Airlines may have fallen through further boosted JetBlue’s stock. If Spirit shuts down, it could give JetBlue the opportunity to expand by taking key airport routes and gate slots. Nonetheless, investors should expect further oil-related volatility in the near-term.
