Hexcel Corporation develops, manufactures, and markets carbon fibers, structural reinforcements, honeycomb structures, resins, and composite materials and parts for use in commercial aerospace, space and defense, and industrial applications. The Composite Materials segment manufactures and markets fabrics, multi-axials, specialty reinforcements, prepregs and other fiber-reinforced matrix materials, structural adhesives, molding compounds, tooling materials, polyurethane systems, and laminates that are used in military and commercial aircraft, wind turbine blades, recreational products, and other industrial applications, as well as in automotive, marine, and rail transportation. The Engineered Products segment manufactures and markets aircraft structures and finished aircraft components, including wing to body fairings, wing panels, flight deck panels, door liners, rotorcraft blades, spars, and tip caps; and aircraft structural sub-components and semi-finished components used in rotorcraft blades, engine nacelles, and aircraft surfaces, such as flaps, wings, elevators, and fairings; and RF interference control products for military and aerospace applications. This segment also provides interference control materials, structural composites, and services; dielectric absorber foams; magnetic absorbers; and thermoplastics for commercial and defense applications. The company sells its products directly through its managers, product managers, and sales personnel, as well as through independent distributors in the Americas, Europe, the Asia Pacific, India, and Africa. Hexcel Corporation was founded in 1946 and is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut.

WWD’s Segment Results
Aerospace: Net sales were $703 million, up 25% year over year, driven by broad-based strength across commercial services, commercial OEM and defense OEM. Defense OEM and defense services sales were up 9% and 8%, respectively, year over year. Commercial OEM sales were up 30% year over year, while services jumped 36%.
Segmental earnings were $158 million, up from $125 million a year ago. The increase was driven by price realization and higher sales volumes, partially offset by the impact of inflation as well as continued investments in manufacturing capabilities, research and development and the enterprise resource planning system upgrade. Margins expanded 30 basis points (bps) to 22.5%.
Industrial: Net sales totaled $387 million, up 20% year over year, driven by gains across transportation, power generation and oil & gas markets. Core industrial sales, excluding the China on-highway impact, rose 19%.
Transportation sales surged 34%, and oil and gas sales increased 18%. Power generation grew a modest 7%.
Segmental earnings were $66 million, up from $46 million in the year-ago quarter. In the industrial segment, margins increased 270 bps to 17%. The increase was driven by higher sales volumes, effective price realization and a favorable product mix, partially offset by inflationary pressures and a reserve related to a product performance claim.
Other Details of WWD
Gross margin was up 180 bps year over year to 29%.
Total costs and expenses were $923.1 million, up 23% year over year.
Adjusted EBITDA was $215.5 million compared with $164 million a year ago.
WWD’s Cash Flow & Liquidity
As of March 31, 2026, Woodward had $501.2 million in cash and cash equivalents with $453.4 million of long-term debt (less the current portion).
For the quarter ended March 31, 2026, WWD generated $90.8 million of net cash from operating activities compared with $77.8 million reported in the same period last year. For the first half, WWD generated $205.3 million of net cash from operating activities compared with $112.3 million reported a year ago.
For the second quarter, free cash flow was $38.2 million compared with $59.4 million in the year-ago period. This uptick was driven by higher earnings.

In the Industrial segment, sales are projected to grow 18–20%, an increase from the prior outlook of 11–14%, while segment earnings are expected to rise to 18–18.5% of sales from the earlier 16–17% range.
The company anticipates adjusted EPS of $9.15–$9.45 versus the prior range of $8.20–$8.60.
Other assumptions remain unchanged — the company still anticipates free cash flow of $300–$350 million, capital expenditures of around $290 million and an adjusted effective tax rate of approximately 22%.

Hexcel Gains From Strong Aerospace Demand & Defense Exposure

Advanced composites company Hexcel (NYSE: HXL) and contract logistics company GXO Logistics (NYSE: GXO) are vastly different companies, but they share a few commonalities that make them compelling buys for long-term investors. They both have excellent long-term growth drivers, trade at highly attractive valuations, and are on the cusp of a significant cyclical growth pick after a period of weak end markets.

A few words of warning
Given recent events, it would be remiss not to note that the key drivers of these stocks, a massive ramp-up in aircraft production (Hexcel) and a long-overdue cyclical recovery in the manufacturing sector (GXO), are at risk from a protracted conflict in the Middle East that leads to supply chain and inflationary issues.
That said, both have sold off recently, and the headline risk I write off applies across most stocks. As such, these stocks are great buys for investors relatively sanguine about the conflict and looking to buy on the dip it's created.
Hexcel is the future of the aerospace industry
Boeing and Airbus have multiyear backlogs and are both aggressively ramping up production after facing supply chain issues and material shortages in recent years. That's great news for Hexel, which provides advanced lightweight composites to both companies and their subcontractors.
Hexcel's materials offer weight and strength advantages over traditional metals, resulting in reduced fuel costs, emissions, and life cycle costs. As such, Hexcel is a play on increased aircraft production over the next decade. In addition, each generation of new aircraft tends to have more lightweight composites on board, so in theory, Hexcel could grow earnings even if aircraft unit production growth is zero.
An example of the underlying growth is the comparison between the older Boeing 777 (10% of weight in composites) and the newer Boeing 777X (30%). A Boeing 777X can generate up to $2 million in revenue for Hexcel, with an Airbus A350 generating up to $5 million.
Wall Street analysts project Hexcel's sales to grow at a double-digit annual rate through 2028, with earnings up 17.1% annually and free cash flow (FCF) at 25% annually. With Boeing and Airbus holding decade-long backlogs, Hexcel has excellent growth prospects.
Great news for GXO Logistics
The cadence of GXO Logistics growth is demonstrated in the table. The company is a leading contract logistics contractor specializing in e-commerce logistics warehousing. Demand boomed during the lockdown years as customers rushed to invest in e-commerce facilities.
Unfortunately, that growth spurt pushed spending forward, and an inevitable retraction occurred in 2023 and 2024.

It gets worse: The supply chain crisis led many companies to build up inventory, and the industrial sector has since drawn down inventory, as confirmed by the U.S. Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) and new orders data. Both surveys have indicated contraction since the end of 2023. That said, January and February data have indicated a sharp expansion, and it looks likely that the long-expected cyclical bounce is in place.
That's great news for GXO, and its guidance for mid-single-digit organic growth in 2026 supports that argument.
