Revenue and earnings by year look uneven: revenue fluctuates, net income remains positive but without sustained acceleration, and operating income and EBITDA show volatility. Dividend yield of 0.34% is low and has declined over the year, so the dividend case for revaluation is weak at the moment. Overall, this is a company profile with strong brands and high gross margin, but with expensive valuation, low capital efficiency, and notable leverage. For the target price, this is more a reason to moderately lower expectations than to raise them, since the market is already pricing in an overly optimistic recovery scenario.

3 Beauty Stocks Poised to Gain From Innovation and Digital Reach

The Estee Lauder Companies Inc. EL delivered impressive fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 results, with both top and bottom lines surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate and increasing year over year. The beauty giant ended fiscal 2026 with accelerating organic sales growth, significant margin improvement and broad-based gains across geographic regions. The company also entered fiscal 2027 with continued momentum across key categories, markets and growth initiatives.
Shares of Estee Lauder have gained 12.7% in the past three months compared with the industry’s growth of 16.1%.
Taking a Quick Look at Estee Lauder's Q4 Results
Adjusted earnings of 39 cents per share beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 32 cents in the fiscal fourth quarter. The bottom line increased from 9 cents in the year-ago quarter.
The company's quarterly net sales of $3,627 million beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $3,551 million. The top line increased 6% year over year. Organic net sales increased 5% to reach $3,590 million.
Skin Care sales increased 9% year over year to $1,853 million, with organic sales up 7%. Fragrance sales rose 10% to $618 million, with organic sales also up 10%. Makeup sales increased 3% to $1,010 million, while organic sales rose 2%. Hair Care sales slipped 1% to $140 million, with the same decline organically. Other sales fell 5% to $19 million. Among the four core categories, Skin Care, Makeup and Fragrance grew, while Hair Care declined.
The Americas generated net sales of $995 million, up 6% on a reported basis and 5% organically. Asia/Pacific net sales climbed 7% to $970 million and rose 9% organically. Mainland China sales advanced 12% to $824 million, with organic growth of 7%. EUKEM sales increased 3% to $851 million and rose 1% organically.
Adjusted gross profit increased 12% year over year to $2,750 million. Adjusted gross margin reached 75.5%, up from 72% in the prior-year quarter. Adjusted operating income rose 95% to $267 million from $137 million.
The company exited the quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $3,498 million, long-term debt of $6,803 million and total equity of $3,806 million. The net cash flow provided for operating activities for the 12 months ended June 30, 2026, was $1,773 million. Capital expenditures during this time amounted to $457 million.
Estee Lauder's FY27 Outlook Points to Further Improvement
For fiscal 2027, Estee Lauder expects organic net sales to rise 3-5%, with growth expected to be stronger in the first half, supported by new product launches, improving travel retail and favorable comparisons. Estee Lauder expects continued rise in Fragrance and Skin Care and a return to growth in Makeup.
Adjusted operating margin is projected at 12.7-13.5%, while adjusted earnings are expected to reach $3.10-$3.35 per share, representing 24-34% growth from fiscal 2026.

Should You Buy, Sell or Hold Estee Lauder Stock Post Q4 Earnings?

Shares of beauty giant The Estee Lauder Companies (NYSE: EL) rallied 11.8% this week through Thursday, according to data from S&P Global Market Intelligence.
Estee Lauder reported fiscal fourth quarter earnings this week that blew past analyst estimates. Furthermore, the company gave optimistic guidance for the fiscal year ahead.

Estee Lauder's stock has been punished thoroughly in recent years, down about 70% over the past five years, even after this week's move. However, the long grind of Estee Lauder's turnaround plan appears to be gaining traction.
Estee's beautiful quarter
In the fourth quarter, revenue increased 6.5% to $3.63 billion, with adjusted (non-GAAP) earnings per share up 333% off a low base to $0.39. Both figures handily beat analyst expectations. Furthermore, both top-line growth and profit margins accelerated relative to recent quarters.
Estee Lauder appears to be executing well on its "Profit, Recovery, and Growth Plan" (PRGP), under which the company is cutting costs aggressively to fund customer-facing investments. Management noted that the company had achieved $1.2 billion in cost cuts to date, which was at the high end of the previous guidance range. That enabled a 1.5-percentage-point improvement in gross margins, despite inflation and tariffs. With the savings, management noted it had increased "customer-facing investments" by 7% in the prior 12 months.
For the year ahead, management expects growth and margin expansion to continue. While the company guided only to an organic revenue growth range of 3% to 5%, management also forecast adjusted operating margins for the upcoming year to land between 12.7% and 13.5%, up from the prior forecast, leading to adjusted EPS between $3.10 and $3.55, which would amount to between 24% and 34% EPS growth.
A good start, but the next year is priced in
No doubt, this week's earnings report was a good sign for Estee Lauder shareholders. However, as stated above, the stock is still down 70% over the past five years, and it will take considerably more growth for the company to regain those levels. Even with the better-than-expected guidance, Estee Lauder's stock still trades at nearly 30 times the midpoint of forward guidance.
Therefore, it seems like the market is already anticipating even greater earnings growth for the luxury stock beyond the upcoming year. Given that Estee Lauder's top-line growth is still only in the mid-single digits, the stock seems more like a "hold" than a "buy" at this level.

Why Estee Lauder Rallied This Week

Wall Street closed higher on Wednesday as investors assessed the minutes of the Federal Reserve’s last meeting, which showed the possibility of further rate hikes and monitoring of corporate earnings. The Nasdaq Composite, the S&P 500 and the Dow ended in positive territory.
How Did the Benchmarks Perform?
The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) rose 0.2%, or 119.65 points, to close at 53,463.05. Nineteen components of the 30-stock index ended in the positive zone and 11 ended in the negative.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.2% to close at 26,331.09.
The S&P 500 gained 0.2% to end at 7,707.98. Out of the 11 broad sectors of the broad-market index, six ended in positive territory, while four were in negative territory and one remained unchanged. The Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR (XLY), the Materials Select Sector SPDR (XLB) and the Health Care Select Sector SPDR (XLV) rose 2.1%, 1.7% and 3.5%, respectively, while the Industrials Select Sector SPDR (XLI) fell 0.9%.
The fear gauge, the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), decreased by 6% to 14.89.
Fed Minutes Keep Rate Hike on the Table
Federal Reserve officials said in the minutes of their July FOMC meeting that they may have to raise interest rates to combat inflation unless it declines.
The Fed kept the federal funds rate at 3.5% to 3.75%. Three members believed that another 25-basis-point rate hike is warranted. However, Fed officials said that current financial conditions are not restrictive enough to bring down inflation to its 2% target.
Overall, the Fed’s priority of bringing down inflation is reflected in the minutes of the meeting, and rate hikes are not ruled out.
Earning Results
The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. EL reported quarterly earnings of $0.39 per share, up from $0.09 a year ago and ahead of the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.32. Revenues totaled $3.63 billion, up from $3.41 billion a year ago and 2.15% above the consensus estimate.
Toll Brothers, Inc. TOL reported quarterly earnings of $2.97 per share, down from $3.73 a year ago and ahead of the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.9. Total revenues were $2.66 billion, down from $2.95 billion a year ago and 2.36% above the consensus estimate.

Also, on the positive side for stocks, Moderna surged more than +176% on Wednesday after announcing a positive result from its personalized cancer vaccine trial with Merck & Co. In addition, the Trump administration delayed 50% tariffs on some Canadian products for three days late Tuesday, less than two hours before the tariffs were set to take effect, saying the two sides had reached a tentative agreement.
US MBA mortgage applications fell -0.4% in the week ended August 14, with the purchase mortgage sub-index down -2.0% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index up +1.5%. The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was unchanged from the prior week at 6.77%.
The minutes of the July 28-29 FOMC meeting were slightly hawkish as many Fed officials indicated that policy tightening would be necessary if inflation didn't decline. The minutes showed participants' inflation outlooks were "highly uncertain," and re re-escalation of the Iran war "clouded the inflation outlook." Officials described the labor market as stable, with labor demand and supply in balance.
The lack of a clear path to a resolution in the Middle East is keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed and limiting crude supplies from the Middle East, keeping upward pressure on oil prices. Sep WTI crude oil prices (CLU26) rallied more than +1% to a fresh 3-week high on Wednesday as Middle East tensions intensified after the United Arab Emirates said it was cutting all economic ties with Iran after accusing Iran of firing ballistic missiles at its territory.
President Trump said he's not interested in extending the expired agreement with Iran, dimming prospects for a swift reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Mr. Trump also said that the US naval blockade on Iranian ports is putting pressure on the country, and he has no timeline for resolving the US-Iran conflict.
On Monday, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that the US is playing the long game with Iran, implying the US has no plans to de-escalate the conflict, potentially limiting crude supplied from the Middle East.
Treasury Secretary Bessent said last week that the administration will soon announce unprecedented economic measures against Iran that “have never been seen in the history of economic isolation of a country.” The economic measures would add to the current US naval blockade of Iranian ports.
There have been no signs of progress toward a US-Iran agreement to fully open the Strait of Hormuz. An Iranian military spokesperson said last Thursday that no ship can safely pass the Strait of Hormuz without Iran’s authorization and supervision and that President Trump’s claims of control over the Strait are “nothing more than lies.” The Iranian statement was in response to President Trump's comment last Tuesday that the US has “total control over the Hormuz Strait” and that “we own it.”
The outlook for strong Q2 earnings is a bullish factor for stocks. The S&P 500 is tracking for earnings growth of almost 32% in Q2, well above projections of +23%, and nearly four times the average earnings growth rate outside of the Covid period since Q4 of 2013, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. AI spending is expected to account for most of earnings, with AI infrastructure stocks set to contribute nearly 60% of the S&P 500's earnings-per-share growth in Q2. So far, earnings results have been positive, with 85% of the 459 S&P 500 companies that have reported Q2 earnings beating estimates, according to Bloomberg data.
The markets are discounting a 32% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on September 15-16.
Overseas stock markets settled lower on Wednesday. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell to a 2-week low and closed down -0.37%. China's Shanghai Composite fell to a 1.5-week low and closed down -2.40%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average slid to a 1.5-week low and closed down sharply by -3.16%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) closed up by +7 ticks on Wednesday. The 10-year T-note yield fell -5.3 bp to 4.651%. Sep T-notes moved higher on Wednesday after the US Treasury announced that it will at least double the maximum size of its liquidity support buyback operations for longer-dated nominal coupon sizes to at least $4 billion per operation, effective September 9.
Gains in T-notes were limited amid higher crude oil prices, as WTI crude oil climbed more than +1% to a 3-week high on Wednesday, boosting inflation expectations. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 2-month high of 2.321% on Wednesday. Also, weak demand for the Treasury’s $16 billion auction of 20-year T-bonds weighed on T-note prices as the auction had a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.53, weaker than the 10-auction average of 2.64.
European government bond yields were mixed on Wednesday. The 10-year German bund yield climbed to a 15-year high of 3.275% and finished up +0.3 bp to 3.262%. The 10-year UK gilt yield fell -3.6 bp to 5.044%.
UK July CPI rose +2.9% y/y, right on expectations. July core CPI rose +2.6% y/y, stronger than expectations of +2.5% y/y.
Markets are discounting a 96% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on September 10.
US Stock Movers
Mining stocks rallied sharply on Wednesday after metals prices surged when the Treasury announced that it was boosting its buybacks of longer-dated US government debt. Hecla Mining (HL) closed up more than +13%, and Coeur Mining (CDE) closed up more than +11%. Also, Anglogold Ashanti (AU) closed up more than +10%, and Newmont Corp (NEM) and Barrick Mining (B) closed up more than +7%. In addition, Freeport McMoRan (FCX) closed up more than +3%, and Southern Copper (SCCO) closed up more than +2%.
Software stocks moved higher on Wednesday, supporting the overall market. ServiceNow (NOW) and Atlassian Corp (TEAM) closed up more than +6%, and Salesforce (CRM) closed up more than +5%. Also, Thomson Reuters (TRI) closed up more than +4%, and Workday (WDAY), Intuit (INTU), and Adobe Systems (ADBE) closed up more than +3%. In addition, Palantir Technologies (PLTR) closed up more than +2%, and Autodesk (ADSK), and International Business Machines (IBM) closed up more than +1%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks surged on Wednesday as Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) rallied more than +5% to a 2.5-month high. Strategy (MSTR) closed up more than +12% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100, and Circle Internet Group (CRCL) and Coinbase Global (COIN) closed up more than +9%. Also, Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) closed up more than +8%, and MARA Holdings (MARA) closed up more than +7%. In addition, Riot Platforms (RIOT) closed up more than +2%.

Stocks Finish Mixed as Bond Yields Fall and Chipmakers Slide

Shares of Estée Lauder (NYSE: EL) leaped on Wednesday after the skincare, makeup, and fragrance purveyor highlighted the progress of its turnaround strategy.

Accelerating growth
Estée Lauder's net sales grew 6% year over year to $3.6 billion in its fiscal 2026 fourth quarter, which ended on June 30.
The gains were broad-based. The cosmetics supplier saw growth in all its major geographic regions, including key markets in China, Japan, Korea, Western Europe, and the U.S.
Estée Lauder is also expanding its presence on e-commerce sites and social media platforms, such as TikTok.
"We ended the year on a high note, as organic sales growth accelerated to 5% for our fourth consecutive quarter of growth and stronger profitability," CEO Stéphane de La Faverie said.
Estée Lauder's profit recovery plan is bearing fruit. The company's restructuring efforts helped to boost its full-year gross margin and adjusted operating margin by 1.5 and 3.2 percentage points, respectively, in fiscal 2026.
All told, Estée Lauder's fourth-quarter adjusted earnings per share checked in at $0.39, up from $0.09 in the year-ago period. That topped Wall Street's estimates, which called for per-share profits of $0.32.
Profit margins should continue to improve
Looking ahead to fiscal 2027, Estée Lauder projects full-year organic net sales growth of 3% to 5%.
Management also raised its adjusted operating margin target range to 12.7%-13.5%, up from a prior forecast of 12.5%-13%.

Also, on the positive side for stocks, Moderna is up more than +110% after announcing a positive result from its personalized cancer vaccine trial with Merck & Co. In addition, the Trump administration today delayed 50% tariffs on some Canadian products for three days, less than two hours before the tariffs were set to take effect, saying that the two sides had reached a tentative agreement.
US MBA mortgage applications fell -0.4% in the week ended August 14, with the purchase mortgage sub-index down -2.0% and the refinancing mortgage sub-index up +1.5%. The average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage was unchanged from the prior week at 6.77%.
The lack of a clear path to a resolution in the Middle East is keeping the Strait of Hormuz closed and limiting crude supplies from the Middle East, keeping upward pressure on oil prices. Sep WTI crude oil prices (CLU26) climbed to a fresh 3-week high today as Middle East tensions intensified after the United Arab Emirates said it was cutting all economic ties with Iran after accusing Iran of firing ballistic missiles at its territory.
President Trump said he's not interested in extending the expired agreement with Iran, dimming prospects for a swift reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Mr. Trump also said that the US naval blockade on Iranian ports is putting pressure on the country, and he has no timeline for resolving the US-Iran conflict.
On Monday, US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said that the US is playing the long game with Iran, implying the US has no plans to de-escalate the conflict, potentially limiting crude supplied from the Middle East.
Treasury Secretary Bessent said last week that the administration will soon announce unprecedented economic measures against Iran that “have never been seen in the history of economic isolation of a country.” The economic measures would add to the current US naval blockade of Iranian ports.
There have been no signs of progress toward a US-Iran agreement to fully open the Strait of Hormuz. An Iranian military spokesperson said last Thursday that no ship can safely pass the Strait of Hormuz without Iran’s authorization and supervision and that President Trump’s claims of control over the Strait are “nothing more than lies.” The Iranian statement was in response to President Trump's comment last Tuesday that the US has “total control over the Hormuz Strait” and that “we own it.”
The outlook for strong Q2 earnings is a bullish factor for stocks. The S&P 500 is tracking for earnings growth of almost 32% in Q2, well above projections of +23%, and nearly four times the average earnings growth rate outside of the Covid period since Q4 of 2013, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. AI spending is expected to account for most of earnings, with AI infrastructure stocks set to contribute nearly 60% of the S&P 500's earnings-per-share growth in Q2. So far, earnings results have been positive, with 85% of the 459 S&P 500 companies that have reported Q2 earnings beating estimates, according to Bloomberg data.
The markets are discounting a 33% chance of a +25 bp rate hike at the next FOMC meeting on September 15-16.
Overseas stock markets are mixed today. The Euro Stoxx 50 is up +0.09%. China's Shanghai Composite fell to a 1.5-week low and closed down -2.40%. Japan's Nikkei-225 Stock Average slid to a 1.5-week low and closed down sharply by -3.16%.
Interest Rates
September 10-year T-notes (ZNU6) are up by +10 ticks today. The 10-year T-note yield is down -5.6 bp to 4.649%. Sep T-notes are climbing today after the US Treasury announced that it will at least double the maximum size of its liquidity support buyback operations for longer-dated nominal coupon sizes to at least $4 billion per operation, effective September 9.
Gains in T-notes are limited amid higher crude oil prices, as WTI crude oil climbed to a 3-week high today, boosting inflation expectations. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 2-month high of 2.313% today. Supply pressures are also weighing on T-notes as the Treasury will auction $16 billion of 20-year T-bonds later today.
European government bond yields are moving lower today. The 10-year German bund yield fell from a 15-year high of 3.275% and is down -1.7 bp to 3.242%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is down -6.0 bp to 5.020%.
UK July CPI rose +2.9% y/y, right on expectations. July core CPI rose +2.6% y/y, stronger than expectations of +2.5% y/y.
Markets are discounting a 95% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on September 10.
US Stock Movers
Mining stocks are up sharply today after metals prices surged when the Treasury announced that it was boosting its buybacks of longer-dated US government debt. Newmont Corp (NEM), Hecla Mining (HL), and Coeur Mining (CDE) are up more than +7%, and Anglogold Ashanti (AU) and Barrick Mining (B) are up more than +6%. Also, Southern Copper (SCCO) and Freeport McMoRan (FCX) are up more than +2%.
Software stocks are climbing today, a supportive factor for the overall market. ServiceNow (NOW), Palantir Technologies (PLTR), and Workday (WDAY) are up more than +2%. Also, Intuit (INTU), Adobe Systems (ADBE), Atlassian Corp (TEAM), Salesforce (CRM), Thomson Reuters (TRI), and Autodesk (ADSK) are up more than +1%.
Chipmakers and AI-infrastructure stocks are sliding for a second day today, weighing on the broader market. The iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) is down more than -2%. Broadcom (AVGO), Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX), Intel (INTC), Applied Materials (AMAT), Western Digital (WDC), and Lam Research (LRCX) are down more than -4%, and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), ARM Holdings Plc (ARM), Sandisk (SNDK), and KLA Corp (KLAC) are down more than -3%.
Moderna (MRNA) is up more than +110% to lead gainers in the S&P 500, and Merck & Co (MRK) is up more than +10% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials after the companies said their joint personalized vaccine helped cut the recurrence of melanoma in a larger, late-stage trial.
Marvell Technology (MRVL) is up more than +9% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100 after announcing an expanded chip-development partnership with Alphabet, including a warrant from Marvell allowing Google to buy as much as $12.2 billion in Marvell stock.
Estee Lauder (EL) is up more than +17% after reporting Q4 net sales of $3.63 billion, better than the consensus of $3.55 billion.
Norfolk Southern Corp. (NSC) is up more than +3% and Union Pacific (UNP) is up more than +2% after a federal regulator said the company and Union Pacific can move forward with plans to create the first coast-to-coast freight network in the US.
La-Z-Boy (LZB) is down more than -13% after forecasting Q2 sales of $475.7 million, well below the consensus of $537 million.
Nebius Group NV (NBIS) is down more than -11% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100 after announcing the sale of $4.5 billion in aggregate of convertible senior notes due 2030 and 2034.
Mercury Systems (MRCY) is down more than -5% after reporting Q4 adjusted EPS of 37 cents, below the consensus of 38 cents.
