Carnival (CCL) Stock Falls Amid Market Uptick: What Investors Need to Know

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. RCL reported mixed third-quarter 2025 results, with adjusted earnings beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate and revenues missing the same. The top and bottom lines increased on a year-over-year basis.
Post the results, the cruise stock declined 8.7% in the pre-market trading session. The negative reaction came despite stronger-than-expected quarterly earnings, as investors turned cautious on the company’s near-term outlook and capital spending plans.
Although management raised full-year EPS guidance, comments regarding adverse weather impacts, the extended closure of Labadee and moderate yield growth expectations signaled potential softness in the fourth quarter and a possible normalization of pricing trends. Additionally, plans for increased capital investment in new destinations and technology may have raised concerns about future cash flow and debt reduction, thereby likely triggering profit-booking.

For the third quarter, the company reported adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $5.75, which beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $5.68. In the prior-year quarter, RCL recorded an adjusted EPS of $5.20.

Total cruise operating expenses amounted to $2.48 billion, up 3.7% year over year. Our estimate for the metric was $2.35 billion.
Net yields rose 2.4% on a constant currency basis (cc) and 2.8% on a reported basis compared with the third-quarter 2024 level. Net cruise costs, excluding fuel, per Available Passenger Cruise Day (APCD) increased 4.8% on a reported basis and 4.3% at cc from last year's quarter figure.
Other Financial Information of RCL
As of Sept. 30, 2025, Royal Caribbean reported cash and cash equivalents of $432 million compared with $388 million in 2024-end. As of the end of the third quarter of 2025, long-term debt decreased to $17.2 billion from the $18.47 billion reported in 2024-end. The current portion of long-term debt at the end of the quarter was $3 billion, up from $1.6 billion recorded in 2024-end.
Booking Update of Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean is witnessing strong booking momentum, with load factors for 2025 and 2026 tracking at record levels and within historical ranges. The company reported accelerated bookings across both new and existing ships, led by robust demand for close-in sailings. It noted that 2026 bookings are trending well above prior-year levels, reflecting rate growth at the high end of historical norms. Onboard spending and pre-cruise purchases remain well ahead of previous years, supported by greater guest engagement and higher pricing. During the third quarter, roughly half of onboard revenues were booked pre-cruise, with nearly 90% of those transactions made through digital channels.
Looking ahead, Royal Caribbean sees strong momentum across its portfolio as consumers continue to prioritize vacation experiences. Bookings for upcoming launches — including Star of the Seas and Celebrity Xcel — are demonstrating exceptional traction, while early demand for Royal Beach Club Paradise Island has been robust. The company also highlighted the overwhelming response to Celebrity River, whose initial deployment sold out almost immediately. These strategic additions underscore Royal Caribbean’s ongoing efforts to enhance guest experiences and expand its integrated vacation ecosystem.
RCL’s Q4 Outlook
For the fourth quarter of 2025, Royal Caribbean expects depreciation and amortization expenses to be in the range of $445-$455 million. Net interest expenses (excluding loss on extinguishment of debt) are projected to be between $245 million and $255 million. Management estimates adjusted EPS to be in the band of $2.74-$2.79.
The company expects net yields to increase in the band of 2.6-3.1% on a reported basis and 2.2-2.7% at cc year over year. Net cruise costs, excluding fuel, per APCD are expected to decline between 5.7% and 6.2% on a reported basis and in the range of 6.1-6.6% at cc.
2025 View by RCL
For 2025, the company expects depreciation and amortization expenses to be in the range of $1.70-$1.71 billion. Net interest expenses (excluding loss on extinguishment of debt) are expected to be between $945 million and $955 million. Adjusted EPS is anticipated to be between $15.58 and $15.63 compared with the previous expectation of $15.41 and $15.55.
The company expects net yields to increase in the band of 3.5-4% both on a reported and cc basis, year over year.

Royal Caribbean Q3 Earnings Beat Estimates, Revenues Miss, Stock Down

It's not easy to find legitimate bargains in the market these days. Winners keep winning, often at a pace that exceeds the improvement in their fundamentals. The stocks that are lagging are probably being left behind for a reason.
I still see bargains here. I think Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and Carnival Corp. (NYSE: CCL) (NYSE: CUK) are dirt cheap stocks in this somewhat elevated market. They would be a good place for your next $300. Let's take a closer look.

1. Verizon
You're not going to buy Verizon for high-octane growth. You have to go all the way back to 2009 -- 16 years ago -- to find the last time revenue for the wireless carrier has topped 6%.
Regardless, Verizon is a money machine. It generates a lot of cash serving the telecommunication needs of its 146.1 million consumer and business accounts. It has reported a normalized net income margin in the double digits for in each of the last 10 years.
It's not keeping all the money it's making for itself, either. Verizon pays out a generous quarterly dividend. Its current 7.1% yield is the highest among the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJINDICES: ^DJI). It has raised its distributions in each of the past 19 years.
Is Verizon about to shift into a new era of heartier growth? Probably not. If the rollout of 5G technology and other infrastructure improvements in recent years didn't find the business pushing down on the accelerator, it's not likely to happen anytime soon. Analysts see revenue falling short of 3% growth this year and next year, just as it has failed to clear that bar in each of the past three years in the golden age of 5G.
The payoff here is that Verizon is cheap. It's trading for just nine times trailing earnings, and eight times forward earnings. It does have a debt-heavy balance sheet that makes its enterprise value double its market cap, but it's still an attractive value proposition. Slow and steady isn't great, but it's a winning recipe for a cheap stock that should hold up better than a market that appears historically overvalued.
2. Carnival
There's a lot to say about cruise line stocks in general and Carnival in particular. The industry was shut down for more than 15 months in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis, and even after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lifted its "No Sail Order" for ships, it was far from business as usual. Just a handful of ships were sailing well below capacity. There were passenger requirements and restrictions that watered down the experience, no pun intended.
Fast-forward to today. Carnival is on a winning streak of 10 consecutive quarters of record quarterly revenue results. It has an even longer run of bottom-line beats, landing ahead of analyst profit targets for a dozen quarters.
Carnival is the largest of the cruise lines in terms of fleet size and the number of passengers that walk up the gangplank. Its namesake brand is the best known option, and a mass market leader. It also has several more upscale lines.
It finally returned to profitability. Unlike Verizon or Royal Caribbean, its largest rival cruise line operator, Carnival isn't sharing its newfound wealth through dividends. However, net yield -- an industry metric that amounts to adjusted gross margin per available passenger cruise day -- is now at an all-time high.
The price to invest in Carnival is more than reasonable. It's trading for a modest 14 times the midpoint of its earnings guidance for this year. The multiple drops to 12 if you turn to what analysts are modeling for next year. In the meantime, consumer appetite for hitting the high seas continues to rise like the tide. It already has half of next year's sailing capacity booked. The total deposits for future sailings that it's holding is the highest that it has ever been at this time. Carnival is cheap, and its recovery is misunderstood and not fairly appreciated.
In the end, $300 is enough to buy either seven shares of Verizon or 10 shares of Carnival. You can also reshuffle your allocation to buy both. They aren't perfect stocks, but they are cheap -- dirt cheap -- in today's market.

The consensus estimate for earnings per share has dipped 0.4% in the past seven days to $2.37. The estimate indicates a decline of 34.2% from the year-ago period’s number.
The Broomfield, CO-based company has a trailing four-quarter earnings surprise of 12.5%, on average. In the last reported quarter, its bottom line surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 5.5%.
Key Factors to Note Ahead of CROX’s Results
Crocs has been witnessing persistent softness in its HEYDUDE brand, which, coupled with a tough macroeconomic environment, is likely to have negatively impacted sales. Crocs’ HEYDUDE brand continues to face headwinds, with softness due to cautious U.S. consumer, elevated tariffs and wholesale channel pressures. The brand is navigating a prolonged reset in North America, marked by incremental inventory returns, wholesale cleanups and a pullback in performance marketing to improve profitability. Elevated supply-chain costs from tariffs remain a concern. Management had estimated a significant impact that will persist into the second half and beyond.
Despite growth in direct-to-consumer (DTC) revenues, the overall brand momentum appears challenged, which could weigh on the company's consolidated performance. On its lastearnings call Crocs had anticipated a modest sales decline of 9-11%, reflecting ongoing marketplace cleanups, reduced wholesale volumes and higher input costs.
In addition, incremental investments in talent, marketing and DTC expansion, coupled with a higher SG&A expense rate, are further pressuring operating leverage. The pullback in discounting for Crocs and incremental wholesale inventory cleanups for HEYDUDE have also been weighing on near-term margins. For the third quarter, the company had expected an adjusted operating margin of 18-19%, reflecting an anticipated negative impact of about 170 basis points from announced and pending tariffs.
However, gains from consumer demand and the continued strength of its core product categories, including sandals, have been encouraging. The company has consistently performed well in these segments, supported by effective pricing strategies and strong brand appeal. Its personalization engine, particularly the Jibbitz business, has shown steady growth. Additionally, Crocs' solid performance in its DTC channel and wholesale channels is expected to have further offered a boost. The consensus mark for the company’s DTC revenues is currently pegged at $507 million for the third quarter.

However, shares dipped after third-quarter earnings, providing an attractive entry point for investors. It's unclear why the market was disappointed in the report, although growth is slowing. Investors who have been on the fence can use the dip to their advantage, and the stock is already climbing back, so now is the time to buy. Here are three reasons why.
1. Excellent management
Every company, starting at the top, will experience times of challenge. Good management is key to dealing with difficulty and operating under pressure, and more than that, handling challenges well signifies management that can make good decisions when things are going right. That's why it's one of the most important things investing legend Warren Buffett looks for in a top stock.
Carnival's management has steered it through a tremendously difficult time, starting with zero revenue and working its way back up to record levels in five years. Although it took some drastic actions, including building up a massive debt, it has retained its status as the dominant global cruise company and is back on the offense, purchasing new ships to meet sky-high demand and rolling out new, attractive destinations and trips for its loyal customers.
This is a reason to be confident that management can continue to guide the company to new heights and roll with whatever comes its way in the future.
2. Lower debt
Management is now in the stage of paying off the company's massive debt, and it's gone remarkably well. It ended the third quarter with $26.5 billion in debt, nearly $10 billion off its peak of $35 billion in 2023. That's almost a third of the total in two years, and keep in mind that it wasn't zero when the pandemic started. Many companies keep a healthy debt for various reasons, like being able to pay a great dividend or to ensure healthy investments in operations. Well-managed companies service the debt responsibly, keeping a comfortable cash and liquidity position. Carnival's debt levels historically have been below $10 billion, which means it has another $16 billion or so to pay down before reaching a level that most investors would probably find suitable.
At the current rates it's been paying it off, it wouldn't take more than a few more years to get it back to those levels. Also, keep in mind that it paid off that chunk when interest rates peaked at their highs. As they go down, it should be easier to pay it down even faster.
There are still a lot of moving parts here. One of the things investors may not have liked about Carnival's earnings report is that it converted some of its convertible debt into equity, which dilutes the stock. But that's not unusual, and in this case, investors knew it was coming. The positive effect is reducing the debt.
3. Priced to buy
The market is still heavily weighing in the high debt, and Carnival stock is still cheap today, trading at a price-to-sales ratio of 1.6 and a forward, 1-year P/E ratio of 12.
That's a low valuation that gives the stock plenty of room to expand without becoming expensive. As Carnival continues to report strong results and reduce its debt, the stock is likely to reward investors.

Demand for travel has not let up over the past few years. Carnival Corp. (NYSE: CCL) served more than 13 million passengers last year, and these customers continue to pay higher ticket prices as demand is outstripping the available capacity of Carnival's ships.
Carnival continues to report record revenue and profits, while bookings are filling up for 2026. Carnival's recently launched Celebration Key private island has already attracted 500,000 guests since opening in July.
The stock is up 270% since bottoming out in 2022, but investors are still getting great value for the shares. The stock is trading at a forward price-to-earnings multiple of 12 on next year's estimates, which is attractive for a growing cruise business.
2. Dutch Bros
Dutch Bros (NYSE: BROS) is a high-growth drive-thru beverage chain with a unique advantage. It focuses on giving customers a warm and friendly experience while grabbing a drink on the go, and it's still early in its long-term expansion across the U.S.
Investors worried about investing in an unproven concept should take heart that Dutch Bros has been around for more than 30 years, but it just completed an initial public offering in 2021 to finance its nationwide expansion strategy. The company currently operates around 1,000 shops with plans to expand that to 2,029 in the next four years.
The company's results have been outstanding. Revenue grew 28% year over year in the most recent quarter, with solid growth in transactions and same-shop sales. Management credits these strong financials to its people-first culture. After the recent pullback, the stock could be coiling for a rebound in 2026.
3. Take-Two Interactive
Take-Two Interactive (NASDAQ: TTWO) is one of the top video game producers in a growing $200 billion industry. Two of its most popular titles are Grand Theft Auto and NBA 2K. The latest installment in Grand Theft Auto has sold 215 million copies since 2013, making the upcoming new release scheduled for May 26, 2026, a major event that could send the stock up next year.
To understand how big the release of Grand Theft Auto VI could be next year, consider that the online multiplayer feature of the current game saw a 50% increase in new players this year. There is tremendous anticipation for the first release in the series in more than a decade that appears to already be driving more interest in the franchise.

Carnival keeps hitting fresh records with each passing quarter
Investors should take a closer look at Carnival (NYSE: CCL). The huge cruise line operator was decimated during the COVID-19 pandemic, as its operations were temporarily halted for safety purposes. It's no surprise that demand for cruise travel fell off a cliff for some time, which negatively impacted the company's revenue. Carnival was also forced to take on more debt.
We're more than five years past the onset of the health crisis. And it's been an impressive turnaround for this business. It seems that a quarter doesn't go by in which Carnival doesnt reportrecords for key performance metrics.
During the fiscal 2025 third quarter (ended Aug. 31), the company registered year-over-year revenue growth of 3% to $8.2 billion, a record. The top-line gain, while smaller than in the years before, still indicates healthy demand for cruise travel among consumers. Carnival ended the quarter with a record $7.1 billion customer deposits. Net yields, a proxy for pricing power, also reached a record.
Despite the general sentiment of macro uncertainty, Carnival's success appears to be broad-based from a geographic perspective, not just dependent on the Caribbean, which is what most investors might assume. CEO Josh Weinstein said in an interview that demand is "off the charts" for Europe and Alaska, for example.
Carnival's operating income totaled $2.3 billion, translating to a stellar 27.9% margin. This was yet another record. Investors should pay close attention to profit trends in the years ahead. Wall Street consensus analyst estimates call for earnings per share to increase 28% between fiscal 2025 and fiscal 2027.
Carnival's success has allowed management to clean up the balance sheet. Carnival has refinanced some of its debt, ending last quarter with $26.5 billion in total debt. Bond ratings agencies are taking notice, upgrading the company's creditworthiness. These are all clearly encouraging signs.
The cruise line industry benefits from favorable long-term tailwinds
There's no denying that demand for cruise travel can shift with the economic winds. While it's certainly great to see that consumers want to take cruise trips in the face of economic uncertainty, there's a risk that a recession will seriously pressure demand. And this can crush Carnival's revenue momentum.
The Federal Reserve's more accommodative stance, with plans to cut interest rates, could help drive greater consumer spending. So, in the near term, it looks like Carnival could benefit from a macro tailwind.
The long-term picture is also bright. Cruise travel is bringing in younger customers. It's also drawing in first-time cruise-goers. This can expand the total addressable market. It also helps Carnival that cruise travel is viewed as providing a better value proposition than land-based alternatives. This all supports durable demand.
Investors can buy shares at a compelling valuation
Carnival shares might be selling for 60% below their all-time high, but they have skyrocketed 278% in the past three years. The company's impressive fundamental performance is getting the investment community's attention, which has supported more bullish sentiment.
But even after such a monumental rise, the valuation is compelling. The stock trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 12. Investors should take advantage of the current setup and buy the dip on Carnival stock. This is a solid company to own for the next five years.

During the quarter, the company stated benefits from steady maintenance demand and early signs of stabilization in new pool construction and remodel activity. It continued to enhance its digital capabilities through expanded adoption of its POOL360 applications and unveiled a strategic roadmap focused on innovation and growth.
While macroeconomic headwinds such as tariff uncertainty and elevated borrowing rates persist, management expects relief from recent rate policy easing and remains confident in its ability to outperform industry trends. Given the diversified product mix, strong private-label portfolio and strategic vendor alliances, the company is optimistic and anticipates driving growth in the upcoming periods.

Selling and administrative expenses increased 4.6% year over year to $251.2 million. In the third quarter, the company’s expenses rose, primarily due to higher employee-related and facility costs associated with the expansion of the sales center network and persistent inflationary pressures. Our estimate for the metric was $243.5 million.
Net income during the quarter totaled $127 million compared with $125.7 million reported in the year-ago quarter. Our estimate for net income was $127.6 million.
POOL's Balance Sheet
As of Sept. 30, 2025, the company’s cash and cash equivalents amounted to $128.4 million compared with $91.3 million as of Sept. 30, 2024. In the quarter, its net long-term debt amounted to $1.05 billion compared with $879.1 million reported in the year-ago quarter.

A Few More Words on GARP
GARP investing gives priority to one of the popular value metrics — the price/earnings growth (PEG) ratio. Although it is categorized under value investing, this strategy follows the principles of both growth and value investing.
The PEG ratio is defined as (Price/ Earnings)/Earnings Growth Rate
It relates the stocks' P/E ratios to the future earnings growth rates.
While P/E alone gives an idea of stocks that are trading at a discount, PEG, while adding the growth element to it, helps identify stocks with solid future potential.
A lower PEG ratio, preferably less than 1, is always better for GARP investors.
Say, for example, if a stock's P/E ratio is 10 and the expected long-term growth rate is 15%, the company's PEG will come down to 0.66, a ratio indicating both undervaluation and future growth potential.
Unfortunately, this ratio is often neglected due to investors' limitations in calculating the future earnings growth rate of a stock.
There are some drawbacks to using the PEG ratio though. It does not consider the very common situation of changing growth rates, such as the forecast of the first three years at a very high growth rate, followed by a sustainable but lower growth rate over the long term.
Hence, PEG-based investing can be even more rewarding if some other relevant parameters are also taken into consideration.
