Pre-Market Earnings Report for August 4, 2025 : IDXX, BNTX, ON, WAT, KSPI, TSN, CNA, W, BRKR, TGTX, TSEM, AXSM

We expect Moderna MRNA to surpass expectations when it reports second-quarter 2025 earnings on Aug. 1, before the opening bell. The company’s earnings beat estimates by 13.70% in the last reported quarter.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for sales and earnings is pegged at $127 million and a loss of $2.99 per share, respectively.
Factors Shaping MRNA’s Upcoming Results
Moderna is likely to have generated a major portion of its revenues from selling its COVID-19 vaccine, Spikevax. Our model estimate for the vaccine’s sales is pegged at $59 million, implying a significant decline from the year-ago level due to lower demand.
We expect minimal product sales of the company's RSV vaccine mResvia, which received FDA approval last year. We estimate mResvia sales at just $2 million, far below sales of competing RSV vaccines, Arexvy (marketed by GSK) and Abrysvo (Pfizer). The softer sales expectation is likely due to the vaccine being approved and recommended later in the contracting season.
Last month, the FDA granted label expansion to mResvia for use in high-risk adults aged 18-59. Just a couple of weeks after this approval, the CDC broadened its RSV vaccine recommendations for this respiratory virus season to include high-risk adults aged 50-59. The prior guidance recommended RSV vaccines for people aged 75 and older, as well as those aged between 60-74 who were at high risk of the disease. Investors might seek updates from the company regarding its plans for marketing both vaccines in the upcoming season.
A regulatory filing is currently under FDA review seeking label approval for updating Spikevax to target the LP.8.1 variant for the 2025-26 vaccination season. A similar regulatory filing is also under the EMA’s review, which recently received a positive recommendation from the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (“CHMP”). Investors would be keen to hear updates on the regulatory progress of these filings, including any feedback or requests for additional data from the FDA, during the upcoming earnings call.
Moderna is also evaluating several pipeline candidates in late-stage development. Last month, the company reported that a phase III efficacy study (P304) showed that its influenza vaccine candidate, mRNA-1010, achieved superior relative vaccine efficacy to an approved flu shot marketed by GSK. These results not only support potential approval of the standalone flu shot but also strengthen the case for refiling mRNA-1083, an investigational combination vaccine against COVID-19 and influenza. In May, Moderna voluntarily withdrew a filing with the FDA for mRNA-1083 after the agency requested additional efficacy data for the flu component. This candidate integrates the company’s COVID-19 shot with mRNA-1010. Investors are likely to watch for updates on refiling plans.
An important candidate in the company’s pipeline is intismeran autogene, a personalized cancer therapy which is being developed in collaboration with Merck MRK. Moderna and Merck are evaluating the therapy in three pivotal phase III studies — one in the melanoma indication and the other two in the non-small cell lung cancer space. It is also being evaluated in clinical studies for cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma and muscle-invasive bladder cancer indications. Investors might seek an update on the Merck-partnered therapy’s progress across these studies.

Earnings estimate for 2025 has decreased to $6.37 from $6.76 per share over the past 30 days, while that for 2026 has declined to $6.03 from $6.04.

Due to the impact of the Medicare Part D redesign, Eliquis' sales growth in the United States might have been tempered sequentially.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate and our model estimate for Eliquis’ second-quarter sales are pegged at $3.5 billion and $3.6 billion, respectively.
Bristol-Myers collaborated with Pfizer (PFE) for Eliquis in 2007. Profits and losses are shared equally worldwide, except in certain countries where Pfizer commercializes Eliquis and pays BMY a sales-based fee.
Nonetheless, this decline has likely been partially offset by an increase in growth product portfolio sales. Growth portfolio primarily comprises Opdivo, Orencia, Yervoy, Reblozyl, Opdualag, Abecma, Zeposia, Breyanzi, Camzyos, Sotyku, Krazati and others.
Consistent label expansions in newer metastatic and adjuvant indications have likely maintained momentum for immuno-oncology drug Opdivo in the second quarter. The Zacks Consensus Estimate and our model estimate for Opdivo sales are pegged at $2.4 billion and $2.43 billion, respectively.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate and our model estimate for Orencia sales are pegged at $909 million and $871 million, respectively.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate and our model estimate for Yervoy sales are pegged at $652 million and $653.7 million, respectively.
Reblozyl posted solid growth in both the United States and international markets in the last reported quarter. Sales in the United States are being driven by strong demand due to a broad label in the first-line treatment for anemia in adults with lower-risk myelodysplastic syndromes who may require transfusions. International sales growth, driven by strong launches in Europe and Japan, has also likely boosted sales of this drug in the second quarter.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate and our model estimate for Reblozyl sales are pegged at $546 million and $502 million, respectively.
Strong growth in Opdualag (first-line melanoma) demand in the United States and encouraging uptake in newly launched markets are likely to have fueled sales. The Zacks Consensus Estimate and our model estimate for Opdualag sales are pegged at $278 million and $269.8 million, respectively.
Breyanzi sales have likely benefited due to its best-in-class profile and strong demand growth across all its approved indications. Camzyos sales have likely seen strong growth, driven by increased demand in the United States on the back of new patient starts and higher demand in newly launched markets outside the country. The drug is expected to record steady growth in 2025 due to its compelling efficacy and safety profile in obstructive HCM.
The newly launched schizophrenia drug Cobenfy, too, is off to a solid start, and sales have likely grown sequentially in the second quarter.
Sotyktu sales have likely been under pressure due to higher rebates.
In April 2024, BMY announced a strategic cost-reduction plan that should result in approximately $1.5 billion savings by the end of 2025. Concurrent with the fourth-quarter results, BMY announced an expansion to its existing strategic productivity initiative, which will include approximately $2 billion in additional annualized cost savings by the end of 2027 (with approximately $1 billion to be achieved in 2025).
Consequently, operating expenses are likely to have decreased in the to-be-reported quarter.
Shares of BMY have lost 14.4% year to date against the industry’s growth of 2%. The stock has also underperformed the sector and the S&P 500 in this timeframe.

Investment Thesis for BMY
Legacy portfolio sales accounted for 50% of total sales in the first quarter and a continued decline in its sales might have adversely impacted top-line growth.
While drugs like Reblozyl, Breyanzi, Camzyos and Opdualag have enabled BMY to somewhat stabilize its revenue base, these drugs will take some time to fully offset the decline in legacy drug sales.
Nonetheless, approval of additional new drugs and label expansion of top drugs should further diversify its pipeline.
The approval of Cobenfy for schizophrenia broadens BMY’s portfolio and validates the acquisition of Karuna Therapeutics. Cobenfy represents the first new pharmacological approach to treating schizophrenia in decades.
BMY made strategic acquisitions to augment its product portfolio, and these seem to be paying off now. However, there is a long way to go. On the other hand, the company has taken on colossal debt to finance these acquisitions.
BMY recently announced a strategic collaboration agreement with BioNTech (BNTX) for the global co-development and co-commercialization of the latter’s investigational bispecific antibody BNT327 across numerous solid tumor types.
BNT327, a next-generation bispecific antibody candidate, targets PD-L1 and VEGF-A. BMY and BNTX will jointly share development and manufacturing costs along with profits on an equal basis.

While BMY’s efforts to revive the top line in the face of generic challenges for key drugs are commendable, the company still has a hill to climb as of now.

Should You Buy, Hold, or Sell BMY Stock Ahead of Q2 Earnings?

Last month, Bristol Myers Squibb BMY announced a strategic collaboration agreement with BioNTech BNTX for the global co-development and co-commercialization of the latter’s investigational bispecific antibody BNT327 across numerous solid tumor types.
While the collaboration strengthens BMY’s pipeline, the company will incur increased operating expenses.
BMY will make an upfront payment of $1.5 billion to BNTX and pay a total of $2 billion in non-contingent anniversary payments through 2028. These tax-deductible charges will be recorded as acquired IPR&D Expense when incurred. Of the total expenses related to the deal, approximately $1.5 billion has most likely been incurred in the second quarter.
This, in turn, will adversely impact the bottom line.
BMY is already facing top-line pressure as the legacy portfolio is under pressure due to continued generic impact on Revlimid, Pomalyst, Sprycel and Abraxane.
The sales of the blood thinner drug Eliquis are also affected due to the Medicare Part D redesign in the United States.
Competition in Dual Target Cancer Therapy Space Heats Up
Developing bispecific antibodies that target two proteins, namely PD-1 and VEGF, has lately been one of the lucrative areas in cancer treatment, attracting pharma giants Merck MRK and Pfizer PFE.
In November 2024, Merck received an exclusive global license to develop, manufacture and commercialize LM-299, a novel investigational PD-1/VEGF bispecific antibody from LaNova. Merck’s oncology portfolio boasts a blockbuster PD-L1 inhibitor, Keytruda, and it is looking to build a diversified oncology pipeline spanning differentiated mechanisms and multiple modalities.
Last month, Pfizer inked a licensing agreement with 3SBio for the development, manufacturing and commercialization of SSGJ-707, a bispecific antibody targeting PD-1 and VEGF, outside China.
The candidate is already being evaluated in China for non-small cell lung cancer, metastatic colorectal cancer and gynecological tumors. Pfizer will also make an equity investment of $100 million in 3SBio upon the deal’s closure.

Will Increased Expenses Affect Bristol Myers' Performance?

Moderna MRNA announced that the FDA has approved its supplemental biologics license application seeking approval for COVID-19 vaccine, Spikevax, for use in children aged six months to 11 years, who are at increased risk for the disease.
The vaccine was previously available for the pediatric patient population under Emergency Use Authorization from the FDA.
Shares of Moderna were up 4.5% yesterday following the announcement of the news.
Following the full approval from the FDA, Spikevax is now approved for all adults aged 65 and above, as well as individuals aged six months through 64 years, who are considered at increased risk for developing severe COVID-19.
Management stated that the updated Spikevax jab will be ready for eligible patients during the 2025-2026 vaccination season in the United States.

Other Players in the COVID-19 Vaccine Space
Besides Moderna, the other vaccines marketed in the COVID-19 space are Pfizer PFE /BioNTech’s BNTX Comirnaty and Novavax’s NVAX Nuvaxovid.
Like Moderna, PFE/BNTX’s Comirnaty has also been developed based on the mRNA technology. The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is currently approved for use in the same patient population as MRNA’s Spikevax.
Notably, Novavax’s Nuvaxovid is the only non-mRNA-based vaccine in the United States. The NVAX vaccine was recently granted full approval by the FDA for use in older adults aged 65 and above, as well as use in individuals aged 12-64 years with at least one underlying condition that puts them at high risk for severe outcomes from COVID-19. Nuvaxovid is still not yet approved for those under 12 years.

MRNA Stock Up on Full FDA Nod for COVID-19 Jab in Pediatric Patients

The first half of 2025 has been topsy-turvy for Bristol Myers BMY. Shares of this biotech giant have lost 16.3% year to date compared with the industry’s decline of 2.7%. The stock has also underperformed the sector and the S&P 500 during this period.
While a slew of positive regulatory updates boosted the stock, pipeline setbacks and generic competition weighed on the same.

Even though the first-quarter performance was better than expected and BMY raised its annual revenue guidance, the stock has been on a downslide thereafter, likely reflecting broader market concerns and investors’ skepticism about its growth prospects.
Let us analyze Bristol Myers’ fundamentals in such a scenario to make a prudent investment choice.
Generic Competition for BMY’s Top Drugs: A Headwind
Legacy Portfolio is being adversely impacted due to continued generic impact on Revlimid, Pomalyst, Sprycel and Abraxane, as well as the U.S. Medicare Part D redesign effect.
Among these, blood thinner medicine Eliquis, for which BMY has a worldwide co-development and co-commercialization agreement with pharma giant Pfizer PFE, is the biggest contributor to the top line.
Eliquis sales were down 4% in the first quarter due to the impact of Medicare Part D redesign in the United States. The company expects sales to steadily increase in the second half of 2025 due to the elimination of the coverage gap.
BMY’s Newer Drugs Stabilize Revenue Base
BMY is relying on newer drugs, such as Opdualag, Reblozyl, and Breyanzi, to stabilize its revenue base as its legacy drugs face generic competition. Thalassemia drug Reblozyl, for which BMY has a collaboration agreement with Merck MRK, has delivered a stellar performance since its approval, driven by strong growth in the first and second-line treatment of myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS)- associated anemia. The drug is expected to make a significant contribution in the coming decade.
Revenue growth for the leading immuno-oncology drug, Opdivo, has been solid, driven primarily by volume growth.
The FDA had earlier granted approval to Opdivo Qvantig (nivolumab and hyaluronidase-nvhy) injection for subcutaneous use. The European Commission (“EC”) recently approved the perioperative regimen of neoadjuvant Opdivo and chemotherapy, followed by surgery and adjuvant Opdivo, for the treatment of resectable non-small cell lung cancer at high risk of recurrence in adult patients whose tumors have PD-L1 expression ≥1%. The company recently received EC approval for the subcutaneous formulation of Opdivo across multiple solid tumor indications.
Sales of CAR T cell therapy, Breyanzi, also continue to gain traction from the approval of new indications and expanded manufacturing capacity. Camzyos has also witnessed strong global uptake in obstructive HCM.
BMY had earlier won FDA approval for xanomeline and trospium chloride (formerly KarXT), an oral medication for the treatment of schizophrenia, in adults, under the brand name Cobenfy.
The approval broadens BMY’s portfolio. Cobenfy represents the first new pharmacological approach to treating schizophrenia in decades. This drug is expected to contribute meaningfully to BMY’s top line in the coming years.
BMY recently entered into a collaboration agreement with BioNTech BNTX. Both companies have entered into an agreement for the global co-development and co-commercialization of BioNTech’s investigational bispecific antibody BNT327 across numerous solid tumor types.
Developing bispecific antibodies that target two proteins, namely PD-1 and VEGF, has lately been one of the lucrative areas in cancer treatment. BNT327, a next-generation bispecific antibody candidate, targets PD-L1 and VEGF-A.
Pipeline Setbacks Weigh on BMY Stock
BMY has experienced a few pipeline setbacks in recent months, which negatively impacted its share price.
The late-stage ODYSSEY-HCM study, evaluating cardiovascular drug Camzyos for the treatment of adult patients with symptomatic New York Heart Association (“NYHA”) class II-III non-obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, did not meet its dual primary endpoints.
The top-line results from the phase III ARISE study on schizophrenia drug Cobenfy were also disappointing. The study is evaluating the efficacy and safety of the drug as an adjunctive treatment to atypical antipsychotics in adults with inadequately controlled symptoms of schizophrenia. Treatment with Cobenfy as an adjunctive demonstrated a 2.0-point reduction in the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale total score compared to placebo with an atypical antipsychotic at week six. However, this data did not reach the threshold for statistical significance for the primary endpoint.
BMY’s High Debt Ratio Worrisome
While BMY’s strategy of acquiring companies with promising drugs and candidates is encouraging, it has resulted in substantial debt to finance these acquisitions.
As of March 31, 2025, the company had cash and equivalents of $12.1 billion and a long-term debt of $46.1 billion.
BMY’s Valuation and Estimate Revision
Going by the price/earnings ratio, BMY’s shares currently trade at 7.24x forward earnings, lower than its mean of 8.54x and the large-cap pharma industry’s 14.77x.

The Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2025 EPS has moved down to $6.76 from $6.87 in the past 60 days, while that for 2026 has dipped to $6.04 from $6.07.

Stay Invested in BMY Stock
Large biotech companies are generally considered safe havens for investors interested in this sector. Drugs like Reblozyl, Breyanzi, Camzyos and Opdualag have enabled BMY to stabilize its revenue base amid generic competition for its legacy drugs. Approval of additional new drugs and label expansion of top drugs should further diversify its pipeline.
However, generic competition is a major headwind for the company and the new drugs will take some time to offset this steep decline. The recent pipeline setbacks weigh on the stock. We recommend prospective investors to wait and watch for the time being.
For investors already owning the stock, staying invested would be a prudent move. The company’s attractive dividend yield (5.35%) is a strong reason for existing investors to stay invested.

BMY Loses 16.3% YTD: Should You Buy, Sell or Hold the Stock?

Shares of CureVac N.V. CVAC have skyrocketed 40.8% in a month after the company signed a definitive agreement to be acquired by BioNTech SE BNTX in an all-stock transaction last week. Per the agreement, each CVAC share will be exchanged for approximately $5.46 worth of BNTX American Depositary Shares (ADS), implying a total equity value of around $1.25 billion for CureVac.
The consideration per ADS represents a premium of 55% to CVAC’s three-month volume-weighted average price of approximately $3.53 as of June 11, 2025. Subject to the closing of the transaction, CureVac shareholders are expected to own between 4% and 6% of BioNTech. The closing of the transaction, expected in 2025, is based on the fulfillment of certain customary closing conditions and required regulatory approvals.
Year to date, shares of CureVac have surged 61% against the industry’s 4.8% decline.

How the $1.25B Acquisition of CVAC Benefits BNTX
The acquisition of CureVac will help BioNTech enhance its capabilities in advancing investigational mRNA-based cancer immunotherapies by expanding its research, development, manufacturing and commercialization infrastructure. It complements BioNTech’s existing strengths in mRNA design, delivery technologies and production. BNTX’s Comirnaty is the first approved mRNA-based vaccine for COVID-19, which was developed in collaboration with Pfizer.
Strategically, the deal will allow BioNTech to expand beyond its existing oncology pipeline and focus on its newer programs across several tumor types, including key assets like its mRNA-based cancer candidates and BNT327, a PD-L1xVEGF-A bispecific antibody.
We remind the investors that earlier in June, BioNTech signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Bristol Myers BMY for the global co-development and co-commercialization of BNTX’s BNT327, as monotherapy and in combinations, across numerous solid tumor types. BMY will pay $1.5 billion upfront, with $2 billion in additional payments through 2028 and up to $7.6 billion in milestones. BioNTech and Bristol Myers will equally share costs and profits. BNT327 is in late-stage, potentially registrational clinical studies for two different lung cancer indications. Another phase III study evaluating the candidate in triple-negative breast cancer is planned to start by the end of 2025. Early data show promising synergy in targeting two key cancer pathways.

CureVac Soars 41% in a Month on a $1.25B Buyout Offer From BioNTech

(RTTNews) - BioNTech SE (BNTX) and CureVac N.V. (CVAC) have entered into a definitive Purchase Agreement pursuant to which BioNTech intends to acquire all of the shares of CureVac, a clinical-stage biotech company developing medicines in oncology and infectious diseases based on messenger ribonucleic acid. Each CureVac share will be exchanged for approximately $5.46 in BioNTech ADSs, resulting in an implied aggregate equity value for CureVac of approx. $1.25 billion. Upon closing, CureVac shareholders are expected to own between 4% and 6% of BioNTech.
Following the closing of the exchange offer, BioNTech and CureVac will effectuate a corporate reorganization of CureVac and its subsidiaries, resulting in BioNTech owning 100% of CureVacs business and interests in CureVac and its subsidiaries.
Shares of CureVac are up 29% in pre-market trade on Thursday.

BioNTech To Acquire CureVac In All-stock Deal With Aggregate Equity Value Of Approx. $1.25 Bln

An unhealthy combination of factors resulted in an unhealthy day on the stock market for next-generation healthcare company BioNTech (NASDAQ: BNTX). Investors were concerned about the latest top-level appointment in public health, plus an analyst became a bit more bearish about the company's future.
When the smoke cleared, BioNTech's shares closed the day more than 6% lower. That was a more dramatic slide than the 0.8% drop of the S&P 500 index.

A controversial pick
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a division of the government's Department of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) headed by Robert Kennedy Jr., announced that appointment Tuesday morning. It has selected Dr. Vinay Prasad to head its Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research, the division responsible for approving vaccines.
This is a controversial move, as Prasad came to prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic as an often sharp critic of policies enacted to fight the disease.
Following the announcement, prices dropped for numerous publicly traded companies that are either developing or have marketed vaccines -- BioNTech among them.
Price target shaved
In what's a case of bad timing, after market hours on Monday Citigroup's Geoff Meacham cut his price target on the company's stock. Following its first-quarter earnings report (published Monday morning), Meacham changed his fair value assessment to $140 per share from his preceding $145.
According to reports, Meacham wrote that current U.S. policy on respiratory vaccines is shaky. However he was impressed with the company's first-quarter performance, and feels it has a good cash runway and promising treatments in development.
While BioNTech does have an impressive recent past, notably with the Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine it developed with Pfizer, it's still a young company that needs to bring more products to market to be a compelling investment. That said, it's a stock well worth keeping an eye on.
