Investors in Best Buy Inc (Symbol: BBY) saw new options become available today, for the July 17th expiration. One of the key data points that goes into the price an option buyer is willing to pay, is the time value, so with 94 days until expiration the newly available contracts represent a potential opportunity for sellers of puts or calls to achieve a higher premium than would be available for the contracts with a closer expiration. At Stock Options Channel, our YieldBoost formula has looked up and down the BBY options chain for the new July 17th contracts and identified one put and one call contract of particular interest.
The put contract at the $57.50 strike price has a current bid of $1.25. If an investor was to sell-to-open that put contract, they are committing to purchase the stock at $57.50, but will also collect the premium, putting the cost basis of the shares at $56.25 (before broker commissions). To an investor already interested in purchasing shares of BBY, that could represent an attractive alternative to paying $61.74/share today.
Because the $57.50 strike represents an approximate 7% discount to the current trading price of the stock (in other words it is out-of-the-money by that percentage), there is also the possibility that the put contract would expire worthless. The current analytical data (including greeks and implied greeks) suggest the current odds of that happening are 67%. July 17th Options Now Available For Best Buy (BBY)

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Monday closed up +1.02%, the Dow Jones Industrial Average ($DOWI) (DIA) closed up +0.63%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed up +1.06%. June E-mini S&P futures (ESM26) rose +0.98%, and June E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQM26) rose +1.06%.
Stock indexes erased early losses on Monday and rallied, with the S&P 500 posting a 5-week high and the Nasdaq 100 posting a 1.5-month high. Oracle jumped by more than +12% on Monday, leading a rally in software stocks that sparked short covering in the broader market. Stocks extended their gains on Monday, while crude oil prices fell from their best level after President Trump said Iran still wanted to make a deal and reached out to the US about peace negotiations.

Stocks initially moved lower on Monday after crude oil prices jumped when President Trump ordered a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, following the deadlocked peace talks over the weekend between the US and Iran. President Trump said the US began a full naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz on Monday and threatened to retaliate in the event of Iranian resistance. Iran said it would target all ports in and close to the Persian Gulf if its own shipping hubs are threatened.
Monday’s US economic news was bearish for stocks after Mar existing home sales fell -3.6% m/m to a 9-month low of 3.98 million, weaker than expectations of 4.05 million.
WTI crude oil prices (CLK26) remain volatile, fluctuating between gains and losses amid news headlines about Iran. The price of crude rose more than +2% on Monday, although well below early highs, as the US vowed to blockade all vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz that call at Iranian ports or were headed there. The blockade could exacerbate global oil and fuel shortages, as about a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas transits through the strait. Iran has been able to export crude during the war, as it exported about 1.7 million bpd in March.
Earnings season begins this week as money center banks report, with Q1 S&P 500 earnings projected to climb +12% y/y, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. Stripping out the technology sector, Q1 earnings are projected to increase around 3%, the weakest in two years.
The markets are discounting a 1% chance for a +25 bp FOMC rate hike at the April 28-29 policy meeting.

June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) on Monday closed up by +2.5 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield fell -2.0 bp to 4.297%. T-notes recovered from early losses on Monday and settled higher after US Mar existing home sales fell more than expected to a 9-month low, a dovish factor for Fed policy. Short covering also emerged in T-notes on Monday after crude oil prices fell sharply from early highs, following President Trump's statement that Iranian officials were seeking an agreement on terms to end the war.
T-notes initially moved lower on Monday after a surge in WTI crude oil prices pushed inflation expectations higher. The 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 3-week high of 2.405% on Monday.
European government bond yields moved higher on Monday. The 10-year German bund yield rose +3.4 bp to 3.092%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose +3.4 bp to 4.869%.
Swaps are discounting a 42% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on April 30.
US Stock Movers
Software stocks rallied on Monday, led by a +12% jump in Oracle (ORCL) to lead gainers in the S&P 500 after it said its new utilities industry suite offerings help utilities cut costs with AI. Also, Cadence Design Systems (CDNS) closed up more than +8% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100, and ServiceNow (NOW) and Atlassian (TEAM) closed up more than +7%. In addition, Workday (WDAY) and Adobe (ADBE) closed up by more than +6%, and Intuit (INTU) closed up more than +5%. Finally, Salesforce (CRM) closed up more than +4% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials.
Chip makers and AI-infrastructure stocks moved higher on Monday and gave a boost to the overall market. ARM Holdings (ARM) closed up more than +5%, and Intel (INTC) closed up more than +4%. Also, Microchip Technology (MCHP), Qualcomm (QCOM), Broadcom (AVGO), Marvell Technology (MRVL), and Seagate Technology Holdings Plc (STX) closed up more than +2%.
Utility stocks retreated on Monday, giving back some of last week’s gains. Edison International (EIX) and PG&E (PCG) closed down more than -4%. Also, NextEra Energy (NEE), Sempra (SRE), and Xcel Energy (XEL) closed down more than -2%.
Revolution Medicines (RVMD) closed up more than +40% after its treatment for an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer boosted patients’ survival in a late-stage trial.
Leggett & Platt (LEG) closed up more than +12% after Somnigroup agreed to buy the company for about $2.5 billion.
Sandisk (SNDK) closed up more than +11% after Nasdaq announced the stock will replace Atlassian in the Nasdaq 100 Stock Index, before the market opens on Monday, April 20.
Ideaya Biosciences (IDYA) closed up more than +7% after saying a mid-late stage trial of its experimental combination therapy for a type of eye cancer had met its main goal.
Palantir Technologies (PLTR) closed up more than +3% after President Trump said the company has “proven to have great war-fighting capabilities and equipment.”
ON Semiconductor Corp (ON) closed up more than +3% after Bank of America Global Research upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $85.
Fastenal (FAST) closed down more than -6% to lead losers in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 after reporting Q1 operating income of $447.6 million, below the consensus of $449.3 million.
Conagra Brands (CAG) closed down more than -4% after it said it is replacing CEO Sean Connolly with John Brase at the end of next month.

Stocks Recover as Oracle Leads Software Companies Higher

In line with its efforts to expand the delivery business, Uber Technologies (UBER) announced that it has entered into a collaboration with Ace Hardware, aimed at bringing more than 3,700 Ace Hardware locations across all 50 states to the Uber Eats platform.
The collaboration of Uber’s delivery technology with Ace’s widespread network footprint is likely to help consumers get their home improvement essentials delivered at their doorstep through few clicks on the Uber Eats app.
The deal reflects Uber Eats’ constant focus on expanding beyond food delivery into everyday retail categories, which include home improvement, beauty, electronics, and more. We would like to remind investors that in 2025, Uber Eats witnessed more than 1,000 new retailers globally and more than 50,000 retail locations across the United States getting added to its platform.
Last year, Uber inked a deal with retailer Best Buy BBY for on-demand delivery. The deal brought consumer electronics from more than 800 stores to the Uber Eats platform. Uber Eats is the online food ordering and delivery platform of the company. Following the tie-up, Best Buy customers throughout the United States are eligible to order a wide range of electronics, appliances and tech essentials on Uber Eats for delivery to their doorsteps.
The Best Buy deal apart, Uber’s agreements with discount retailers Dollar General (DG) and Dollar Tree (DLTR) were also on the same customer-friendly lines. The tie-up with Dollar General ensured that its more than 14,000 locations arrived on the Uber Eats platform. Following the association with Dollar General, customers are using the Uber Eats app to order food, beverages and other essentials.
The deal with Dollar Tree has also enhanced UBER’s retail delivery capabilities by adding nearly 9,000 stores to the Uber Eats platform. The partnership with Dollar Tree ensures that customers across states can easily access affordable items of everyday use, ranging from party supplies to cosmetics and home essentials for on-demand delivery.

Interest Rates
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM6) today are down by -3 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is up +0.8 bp to 4.325%. T-notes are sliding today on inflation concerns. WTI crude oil prices are up by more than +7%, boosting inflation expectations, as the 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 3-week high of 2.396% today. Losses in T-notes are limited as today’s slump in stocks has boosted some safe-haven demand for T-notes.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German bund yield is up +2.0 bp to 3.078%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is up +3.1 bp to 4.866%.
Swaps are discounting a 34% chance of a +25 bp ECB rate hike at its next policy meeting on April 30.
US Stock Movers
Airline stocks and cruise line operators are falling as today’s +7% jump in crude oil prices threatens to raise fuel costs and undercut corporate profits. Carnival (CCL) and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) are down more than -3%. Also, American Airlines Group (AAL), United Airlines Holdings (UAL), Delta Air Lines (DAL), Alaska Air Group (ALK), Southwest Airlines (LUV), and Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL) are down more than -2%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks are moving lower today, with Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) down more than -3%. MARA Holdings (MARA), Riot Platforms (RIOT), and Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) are down more than -3%. Also, Coinbase Global (COIN) and Strategy (MSTR) are down more than -2%.
Energy stocks and energy service providers are climbing today, with the price of WTI crude oil up by more than +7%. APA Corp (APA) and ConocoPhillips(COP) are up more than +2%, and Chevron (CVX) is up more than +1% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials. Also, Diamondback Energy (FANG), Devon Energy (DVN), Exxon Mobil (XOM), and Occidental Petroleum (OXY) are up more than +1%.
Goldman Sachs (GS) is down more than -4% to lead losers in the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrials after reporting Q1 FICC sales and trading revenue of $4.01 billion, weaker than the consensus of $4.87 billion.
Fastenal (FAST) is down more than -2% after reporting Q1 operating income of $447.6 million, below the consensus of $449.3 million.
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is down more than -3% after Raymond James downgraded the stock to outperform from strong buy.
Conagra Brands (CAG) is down more than -3% after it said it is replacing CEO Sean Connolly with John Brase at the end of next month.
Best Buy (BBY) is down more than -2% after Goldman Sachs double-downgraded the stock to sell from buy with a price target of $59.
Revolution Medicines (RVMD) is up more than +40% after its treatment for an aggressive form of pancreatic cancer boosted patients’ survival in a late-stage trial.
Ideaya Biosciences (IDYA) is up more than +20% after saying a mid-late stage trial of its experimental combination therapy for a type of eye cancer had met its main goal.
Leggett & Platt (LEG) is up more than +11% after Somnigroup agreed to buy the company for about $2.5 billion.
Sandisk (SNDK) is up more than +3% after Nasdaq announced the stock will replace Atlassian in the Nasdaq 100 Stock Index, before the market opens on Monday, April 20.
Palantir Technologies (PLTR) is up more than +2% after President Trump said the company has “proven to have great war-fighting capabilities and equipment.”
ON Semiconductor Corp (ON) is up more than +1% after Bank of America Global Research upgraded the stock to buy from neutral with a price target of $85.

Through the issuance of equity and convertible debt over the years as its stock price rode the meme craze, GameStop (NYSE: GME) and CEO Ryan Cohen find themselves with a stockpile of cash.
The company had $9 billion in cash and marketable securities on its balance sheet at the end of January and an additional $368.4 million in Bitcoin. It also has long-term debt of nearly $4.2 billion, although these are convertible notes that pay no interest, so it is essentially more like a future equity offering.

When GameStop acquired 4,701 bitcoins in May 2025, it looked like the company might be taking a page out of Strategy's playbook and becoming an aggressive accumulator of the cryptocurrency and a key part of its strategy. However, it hasn't added to or sold its position, and this now looks like a one-off trade.
With so much cash on hand, investors are wondering what the company plans on doing with it. In January, Cohen stated that he wanted to make a large acquisition in the consumer space. Let's look at three potential acquisition candidates.
Is Best Buy the best buy?
When Cohen said he was looking for a large, undervalued consumer business that could help transform GameStop, many investors immediately pegged electronics retailer Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) as a likely option. Both companies operate in the gaming space, but Best Buy obviously sells a much broader assortment of products.
Such a deal would likely force GameStop to take on some debt for a slow-growth retailer. This wouldn't be a great option for GameStop's cash in my view.
Leaning into collectibles
Cohen has helped turn around GameStop by leaning into the hot collectibles market. This was its growth engine in 2025, with sales up 47.7%, while its other businesses declined.
Acquiring Collector's Universe, which has been rolling up the trading card grading industry over the past few years, would make strategic sense. After all, GameStop's turnaround was in large part fueled by its becoming an authorized Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) dealer. This deal would make the most sense in my view, although it doesn't fit the criteria Cohen laid out for a larger, publicly traded business.
Acquiring a totally non-related consumer business
Cohen said he plans to buy a "high-quality, durable, scalable" business in which the management team has been asleep at the wheel. If he's getting into a completely different area and wants a company larger than GameStop, that could be Lululemon (NASDAQ: LULU).
Lululemon has been struggling and currently has no CEO, and I could totally see Cohen teaming up with outspoken Lululemon founder Chip Wilson to buy the business.
Cohen said such a deal "is something that really has never been done before within the history of the capital markets," so with a $18 billion market cap, Lululemon seems to fit all the criteria he talked about, much more so than Best Buy or Collector's Universe. Meanwhile, turning around Lululemon likely would be easier and have more potential upside. Then maybe he can turn around and sell the GameStop business to Collector's Universe.

It's complex to determine whether a stock is undervalued, overvalued, or properly valued. That's because it's impossible to predict the future, so investor valuations remain part art and part science.
Investors can't merely look at what the stock price has done, either. A declining price doesn't necessarily translate into an attractive valuation. It's important to look at the movement in the context of a company's long-term growth prospects.

Venerable electronics retailer Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) may not have the high-growth prospects that it once did, but does the stock represent an opportunity for patient, value-oriented investors?
The results
Best Buy's sales have been underwhelming for some time, including negative same-store sales (comps) in fiscal years 2024 and 2025. The company's comps were tepid last year. Best Buy's fiscal 2026 comps, which ended on Jan. 31, increased just 0.5%.
While that's better than the 6.8% and 2.3% declines in 2024 and 2025, respectively, it's nothing to get excited over. Comps also fell 0.8% in the key fourth quarter, which includes the holidays.
Management doesn't expect much, if any, improvement this year. It's calling for a range of a 1% drop to a 1% increase in comps. At the midrange, that's flat comps.
It also expects adjusted earnings of $6.30 to $6.60 per diluted share. That's not very exciting compared to the $6.43 it earned last year.
Best Buy's valuation
While Best Buy's shares have performed essentially in line with the S&P 500 index this year through April 2, they've woefully underperformed over longer periods. For instance, over five years, the stock lost 44.3% compared to the S&P 500's 63.8% gain.
Investors can turn to the price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio as a very useful valuation metric. The higher the ratio, the more expensive the stock, all else being equal. Of course, that means investors have high earnings growth expectations.
Best Buy has a P/E ratio of 13, down significantly from the 20 multiple at the start of the year. By comparison, the S&P 500 has a P/E ratio of 28.
That seems like Best Buy's stock is undervalued versus the market. However, I'd pause before jumping to that conclusion.
Remember, the company's sales have been in a multiyear slump. While economic factors that have hurt consumer spending played a role, that's not the entire story. After all, weak sales have been going on for quite some time.
If the stock's not undervalued, is Best Buy overvalued? You could make the argument that the stock has further to fall until the company proves it can sustain sales and earnings growth.
Hence, I'd avoid Best Buy's stock.

Is Best Buy Stock Overvalued Right Now?

GameStop (NYSE: GME) is playing to win. After four fiscal years of declining revenue growth, the video game retailer knows it needs to start thinking outside the small box if it wants to thrive, or even survive.
CEO Ryan Cohen announced on CNBC in late January that GameStop was working on a major acquisition of a larger consumer company. He said it would be transformational for not just his own company, but also for capital markets in general.

Armed with more than $9 billion in cash at the end of January, investors began plotting the potential purchase. Despite also packing more than $4 billion in long-term debt, GameStop would still be able to buy a larger company through additional leverage or by including more stock than cash in a potential deal.

Expectations of a narrative-altering adding were high heading into GameStop's fiscal fourth-quarter report two weeks ago. It would be the perfect time to spill the beans on this deal that had been in the works for months, but GameStop didn't address Cohen's earlier comments. There was noearnings callfor analysts to dig deeper into the CEO's January hype.
Sometimes, transformational deals transform into something else, but a possible pairing isn't out of the question until Cohen says so. GameStop needs a reset, and I've seen a lot of wishful thinking and outrageous forecasts for the widely followed video game stock. Let's close with three potential publicly traded companies that I think could be doable with GameStop in its current state. They all seem unlikely, but they still bear watching.
Best Buy (NYSE: BBY): With an enterprise value of $15.7 billion, Best Buy is certainly larger than GameStop. It's also been consistently profitable over the years. GameStop, on the other hand, posted three years of small profits after years of losses. It also posted an operating profit in fiscal 2025 after six years of deficits. But the only reason those operating losses turned into positive net income in the last two red-inked years was the interest income it generated from its substantial cash. That safety net will probably be gone in a deal.
Best Buy would still be a good catch. Unlike the video game industry, which shifted to digital distribution -- a knockout blow for GameStop's business -- folks still need physical appliances, smartphones, and electronics.
Sirius XM (NASDAQ: SIRI): Satellite radio is on a slow fadeout, but the last three years of top-line declines have been modest compared with GameStop's slide. Sirius XM is also highly profitable, consistently generating more than $1 billion in free cash flow annually. One thing holding Sirius XM back is its appeal to younger listeners. GameStop, with its meme stock fervor, could make the premium radio platform cool again. Its enterprise value is $17.9 billion, but think about what GameStop could do with the free cash flow to fund digital or crypto initiatives.
eBay (NASDAQ: EBAY): This is the one that makes the most sense, as I'm not sure that Best Buy or Sirius XM would result in a favorable jump for GameStop stock. The online marketplace operator is a shell of what it used to be. It has unloaded many of its non-core businesses. However, unlike any other company here, including GameStop, revenue has increased in each of the last three years. The $46.4 billion enterprise value will make this deal difficult to wrap up for many reasons, but it's a scalable business that can get going with the right meme stock nudge.

GameStop Is Reportedly Considering an Acquisition That Could be "Transformational" for the Business. Here's What We Know.

A month has gone by since the last earnings report for Best Buy (BBY). Shares have lost about 4.6% in that time frame, underperforming the S&P 500.
Will the recent negative trend continue leading up to its next earnings release, or is Best Buy due for a breakout? Before we dive into how investors and analysts have reacted as of late, let's take a quick look at the latest earnings report in order to get a better handle on the important drivers.
Best Buy’s Q4 Earnings Beat Signals Strong Strategic Execution
Best Buy reported fourth-quarter fiscal 2026 results, wherein revenues lagged the Zacks Consensus Estimate and earnings surpassed the same. Also, the top line declined and the bottom line rose year over year.
Insight Into BBY’s Quarterly Performance
Adjusted earnings of $2.61 per share surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $2.48. Also, the bottom line increased 1.2% from $2.58 per share in the year-ago period.
Enterprise revenues came in at $13,814 million, lagging the consensus mark of $13,907 million and declined 1% from the prior-year quarter's $13,948 million. Enterprise comparable sales declined 0.8% year over year. By month, the enterprise comparable sales declined approximately 3% in November, improved to 0.2% growth in December and increased 0.4% in January.
Gross profit edged down 1.2% to $2.88 billion, while the gross margin remained flat year over year at 20.9%.
Adjusted SG&A expenses were $2.19 million, down 1.8% year over year. Adjusted SG&A, as a percentage of revenues, was down 20 bps to 15.8%.
Adjusted operating income was $695 million, up 0.7% from the year-ago quarter. The adjusted operating margin of 5% rose 10 bps from the prior-year period.
BBY’s Domestic & International Operations
Domestic revenues totaled $12.58 billion and represented a 1.1% year-over-year decline, driven by a 0.8% decrease in comparable sales. From a merchandising standpoint, the most significant weighted contributors to the comparable sales decline were home theater and appliances. These declines were partially offset by growth in computing and mobile phones. Domestic online revenues were $4.91 billion, reflecting a 2.3% decrease on a comparable basis. Online sales accounted for 39% of the total Domestic revenues compared with 39.5% in the prior year.
The domestic gross margin was 20.9%, approximately flat year over year. Growth in Best Buy Ads and Marketplace contributed positively to the gross margin but was largely offset by lower product margin rates. Domestic adjusted SG&A expenses were $2.00 billion, or 15.9% of revenues compared with $2.03 billion, or 16% of revenues, last year. The decrease in adjusted SG&A was driven by lower compensation expenses, including incentive pay, as well as reduced Best Buy Health expenses. These reductions were partially offset by higher costs associated with the company’s Marketplace and Best Buy Ads initiatives.
International revenues totaled $1.24 billion, increased 0.5% year over year. The rise was primarily driven by favorable foreign exchange rates, partially offset by a 1.3% decline in comparable sales.
The International gross margin was 20.5%, down 90 basis points year over year. The decline was mainly attributable to lower product margin rates. The segment’s adjusted SG&A expenses were $189 million, or 15.3% of revenues, compared with $194 million, or 15.7% of revenues, in the prior year. The reduction in adjusted SG&A was primarily due to lower compensation expenses, including incentive compensation, partially offset by the unfavorable impacts of foreign exchange rates.
BBY’s Financial Snapshot
Best Buy ended the quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $1.74 billion, long-term debt of $1.17 billion, and a total equity of $2.96 million.
In the quarter under review, the company returned $272 million to shareholders, consisting of $199 million in dividends and $73 million in share repurchases.
For fiscal 2026, total shareholder returns amounted to $1.07 billion, including $801 million paid out in dividends and $273 million used for share buybacks. For fiscal 2027, the company expects to allocate $300 million toward share repurchases.
Moreover, the board of directors approved a 1% increase in the regular quarterly cash dividend, raising it to 96 cents per common share. The dividend will be paid out on Apr. 14, 2026, to shareholders of record as of the close of business on March 24, 2026.
What Lies Ahead for Best Buy?
For fiscal 2027, the company expects revenues from $41.2 billion to $42.1 billion. Comparable sales are projected to fluctuate between a 1% decline and 1% growth. The company expects its gross margin to improve 30 basis points from that reported in the prior year, driven by growth in Best Buy Ads and its U.S. Marketplace platform.
Turning to adjusted SG&A, expenses are projected to increase to support the continued expansion of Ads and Marketplace initiatives, including higher spending on advertising, technology and employee compensation. Incentive compensation is also expected to rise as performance targets are reset for the upcoming year, with the high end of the company’s guidance indicating an increase of $30 million from that reported in fiscal 2026.
Store payroll expenses are anticipated to rise at the high end of the revenue outlook, with minimal impact on the overall rate. These increases are expected to be partially offset by lower expenses within Best Buy Health. The low end of the company’s guidance assumes further reductions in variable expenses, including incentive compensation, to better align costs with sales trends.
The adjusted operating margin is anticipated between 4.3% and 4.4%. Adjusted earnings per share are forecast to be $6.30 to $6.60. Capital expenditure for the year is estimated at $750 million.
For the first quarter, the company expects comparable sales to increase 1%, along with an adjusted operating margin of 3.9%.
How Have Estimates Been Moving Since Then?
In the past month, investors have witnessed a downward trend in fresh estimates.

At this time, Best Buy has a strong Growth Score of A, though it is lagging a lot on the Momentum Score front with an F. However, the stock was allocated a score of A on the value side, putting it in the top 20% for value investors.
Overall, the stock has an aggregate VGM Score of A. If you aren't focused on one strategy, this score is the one you should be interested in.
Outlook
Estimates have been broadly trending downward for the stock, and the magnitude of these revisions indicates a downward shift. It's no surprise Best Buy has a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell). We expect a below average return from the stock in the next few months.
