Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ALNY reported second-quarter 2025 earnings of 32 cents per share, in contrast to the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of 3 cents. The improvement was due to higher revenues from the sale of its lead drug, Amvuttra (vutrisiran). The company reported adjusted earnings of 56 cents in the year-ago quarter.
Alnylam recorded total revenues of $773.7 million in the quarter, which easily surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $673 million. In the year-ago quarter, total revenues were $659.8. The top line rose 17% year over year on a reported basis and 16% at a constant exchange rate (CER), mainly driven by increased product sales.
Net product revenues were $672.2 million, up 64% year over year on a reported basis and 62% at CER, driven by strong growth in patient demand for Amvuttra, as well as for Givlaari (givosiran) and Oxlumo (lumasiran). ALNY shares jumped 15.4% on Thursday as investors responded positively to the strong financial performance of its marketed drug portfolio.
Net revenues from collaborators were $61.5 million, down 73% from the year-ago quarter, primarily due to a $185 million milestone payment received from Regeneron REGN in the year-ago quarter upon granting REGN an exclusive license to develop, manufacture and commercialize cemdisiran as a monotherapy. Furthermore, Alnylam did not recognize any revenues from Novartis NVS in the reported quarter. ALNY recognizes revenues under its ongoing collaborations with Roche RHHBY.
Alnylam also recognized royalty revenues of $40 million in the reported quarter, up 78% year over year.
ALNY’s Q2 Results in Detail
Onpattro (patisiran) is approved for the treatment of polyneuropathy of hereditary transthyretin-mediated (hATTR) amyloidosis. The injection recorded sales of $52.5 million in the reported quarter, down 32% on a reported basis. Onpattro sales beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $45.9 million as well as our model estimate of $46 million.
Amvuttra is FDA-approved for the treatment of adult patients with polyneuropathy of hATTR amyloidosis. The European Commission also approved Amvuttra for treating hATTR amyloidosis in adult patients with stage 1 or 2 polyneuropathy. Recently, label expansion for the drug has also been approved in the United States and the EU for treating cardiomyopathy of wild-type or hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis (ATTR-CM) in adults to reduce cardiovascular mortality, cardiovascular hospitalizations and urgent heart failure visits.
Amvuttra generated sales worth $492 million in the second quarter, up 114% on a reported basis. The uptake for the product has been encouraging, with new patients starting treatment as well as several patients switching from Onpattro. The expanded label is also boosting sales. Amvuttra sales easily beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $365.4 million as well as our model estimate of $330.7 million.
Givlaari, approved for the treatment of acute hepatic porphyria, recorded sales of $80.8 million, reflecting a year-over-year increase of 30% on a reported basis. Givlaari sales beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $72.6 million and our model estimate of $73.1 million. Oxlumo recorded global net product revenues of $46.9 million in the reported quarter, up 15% year over year on a reported basis. Oxlumo sales marginally beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $46.6 million as well as our estimate of $43.5 million.
Year to date, ALNY stock has soared 66.7% compared with the industry’s 1.5% rise.

Adjusted research and development (R&D) expenses gained 11% year over year to $274.1 million. R&D expenses accounted for costs associated with the startup activities for a phase III cardiovascular outcomes study, which will evaluate zilebesiran to treat patients with hypertension at high cardiovascular risk, in partnership with Roche. Expenses associated with the recently initiated phase III TRITON-CM study, evaluating nucresiran in patients with ATTR-CM, also contributed to higher R&D costs.
Adjusted selling, general and administrative (SG&A) expenses increased 26% year over year to $261.2 million, primarily due to higher employee compensation costs and increased marketing investment associated with the Amvuttra launch for ATTR-CM.
Cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities as of June 30, 2025, amounted to $2.86 billion compared with $2.63 billion recorded as of March 31, 2025, with the increase primarily driven by net cash inflows from operating activities and proceeds from the exercise of employee stock options.
ALNY Updates 2025 Net Sales Guidance
Alnylam now expects its net product revenues for Onpattro, Amvuttra, Givlaari and Oxlumo in the range of $2.65-$2.8 billion for 2025, up from the previously guided range of $2.05-$2.25 billion.
The guidance for net revenues from collaborations and royalties is maintained in the range of $650-$750 million. Adjusted R&D and SG&A expenses are expected to remain in the band of $2.1-$2.2 billion.

ALNY’s Ongoing Collaboration Agreements
Alnylam, in collaboration with Regeneron, is advancing cemdisiran, an investigational RNAi therapeutic for the treatment of complement-mediated diseases. The agreement regarding cemdisiran underwent a modification last year. Per the modified agreement, Alnylam granted exclusive rights to Regeneron to develop cemdisiran as monotherapy and in combination with anti-C5 antibodies for complement-mediated indications.
ALNY regained full global development and commercialization rights to mivelsiran in all indications in 2024, after Regeneron opted out of further co-development and co-commercialization of mivelsiran in development for cerebral amyloid angiopathy and Alzheimer's disease. However, Regeneron will be eligible to receive low double-digit royalties on sales of mivelsiran, if approved.
Alnylam, in collaboration with Roche, is developing zilebesiran in a mid-stage study (KARDIA-3) to treat hypertension. ALNY and RHHBY also plan to initiate a phase III cardiovascular outcomes study for the candidate by the end of 2025 for the same indication.
Alnylam has granted Novartis exclusive global rights to manufacture and commercialize RNAi therapeutics targeting PCSK9, including Leqvio (inclisiran), for hypercholesterolemia and other diseases. The FDA has approved Leqvio for several heart disease indications alongside diet and statins. As of June 2025, Leqvio is approved in more than 106 countries, with ongoing late-stage studies for further label expansion.
Our Take
Alnylam reported better-than-expected results in the second quarter of 2025, beating earnings and revenue estimates. The year-over-year increase in revenues has been mainly fueled by growing Amvuttra sales as a result of increased patient demand. The recent label expansion of the drug for the ATTR-CM indication in the United States and the EU has further expanded the eligible patient population for the drug, which is boosting sales and is expected to continue to do so in the quarters ahead. Sales of other products, Givlaari and Oxlumo, are also contributing to the top line.

ALNY Q2 Earnings Top Estimates on Higher Amvuttra Revenues, Stock Up

The market expects Regeneron (REGN) to deliver a year-over-year decline in earnings on lower revenues when it reports results for the quarter ended June 2025. This widely-known consensus outlook is important in assessing the company's earnings picture, but a powerful factor that might influence its near-term stock price is how the actual results compare to these estimates.
The stock might move higher if these key numbers top expectations in the upcoming earnings report, which is expected to be released on August 1. On the other hand, if they miss, the stock may move lower.

Regeneron (REGN) Expected to Beat Earnings Estimates: What to Know Ahead of Q2 Release

Exciting times for this biotech innovator
Keith Speights (Alnylam Pharmaceuticals): In her comments during Alnylam Pharmaceuticals' first-quarter update, CEO Yvonne Greenstreet said, "2025 is off to a remarkable start." She was exactly right.
Alnylam's share price has jumped close to 23% year to date. The stock has almost doubled over the last 12 months. Alnylam reported 28% year-over-year revenue growth in Q1, driven largely by its U.S. transthyretin amyloidosis franchise.
On March 20, 2025, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Alnylam's Amvuttra in treating cardiomyopathy of wild-type or hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis (ATTR-CM). Only two days earlier, Sanofi won FDA approval of Qfitlia for treating hemophilia. Alnylam licensed the drug to Sanofi and stands to receive tiered royalties of 10% to 15% on all sales.
Amvuttra captured roughly 70% of new patient starts in Q1 despite only receiving a thumbs-up from the FDA late in the quarter. Alnylam expects the drug's U.S. momentum to build in the second half of 2025. It also hopes to win approvals in Japan in Q2 and in the European Union in Q3. Analysts think Amvuttra will become a huge blockbuster drug for Alnylam, with peak annual sales in the ballpark of $7.9 billion by 2035.
More good news could be on the way. Alnylam plans to announce results from a phase 2 study evaluating zilebesiran in treating hypertension later this year. The company hopes to advance the drug to phase 3 testing in the second half of 2025. It also intends to move nucresiran into late-stage testing as a treatment for ATTR-CM within the next month or so.
Wall Street is largely bullish about this stock, with 24 of the 33 analysts surveyed by LSEG rating it as a "buy" or a "strong buy." I agree with this optimism. Alnylam should have plenty of room to run.
There is plenty of upside left for this stock
Prosper Junior Bakiny (Axsome Therapeutics): Share prices of Axsome Therapeutics, a mid-cap biotech, are up by 234% in the past three years thanks to solid clinical and regulatory progress. Notably, the company earned FDA approval for Auvelity, a therapy for major depressive disorder, in 2022. Then there is Symbravo, a migraine treatment, that earned the nod in January.
Axsome Therapeutics' top line is growing rapidly, with Auvelity leading the charge. In the first quarter, the company's revenue came in at $121.5 million, up 62% year over year.
The good news is that there are more catalysts ahead that could jolt the stock price. Axsome Therapeutics has a large late-stage pipeline that should lead to more approvals and label expansions. For example, AXS-05, the generic name for Auvelity, aced late-stage clinical trials in treating Alzheimer's disease agitation. The company will soon seek approval for the medicine in this indication.
The company is also inching closer to a regulatory submission for AXS-12, an investigational medicine for cataplexy in narcolepsy patients. That only scratches the surface of Axsome Therapeutics' pipeline. The drugmaker should see over half a dozen late-stage clinical trial readouts, regulatory submissions, or approvals in the next two years.
And as the company makes progress, its financial results will improve. Axsome Therapeutics is slowly establishing itself as a notable player in the biotech industry. So, despite its shares crushing the market over the past three years, it's not too late to buy the stock.
This stock may not have reached its peak just yet
David Jagielski (Summit Therapeutics): After soaring a staggering 440% in the past 12 months, you might think that Summit Therapeutics stock might be running out of steam. But while its near-$18 billion valuation is high, especially for a company which doesn't even have an approved product yet, it's possible that it could still go higher.
Everything hinges on whether its cancer treatment, ivonescimab, is in fact the real deal or not. In a recent clinical trial, ivonescimab showed that it was able to reduce the risk of death or disease progression in patients with metastatic or locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer by 49%, when compared to Merck's top-selling cancer drug, Keytruda.
The problem, and what may be limiting the healthcare stock from even more gains right now, is that the study was based in China. For regulators in the U.S. to approve the drug, they'll likely want to see a more diverse study, which can confirm its effectiveness.
Summit is working on global trials involving ivonescimab, and if the data proves to be encouraging, then it might not be a surprise to see the stock surge even higher in value. Keytruda has generated tens of billions of dollars for Merck over the years, and if Summit is sitting on a potentially better drug than that, it's easy to see why investors may still have a lot of reasons to remain bullish.
Investors, however, should tread carefully because there is considerable risk with the stock, as the business isn't generating revenue and there's not much else to fall back on right now besides ivonescimab; if clinical trial results prove to be underwhelming from a wider and more diverse group of participants, then a significant sell-off could ensue.

My definition of a high yield is any yield at least twice the level of the S&P 500's yield. The threshold is currently around 2.56%. An ultra-high yield, in my view, is one that's four times higher than the S&P 500's yield. To reach that lofty level, a yield would need to be at least 5.12%.

1. abrdn Life Sciences Investors
The abrdn Life Sciences Investors (NYSE: HQL) is a closed-end fund (CEF) that, as its name indicates, invests primarily in life sciences companies. Aberdeen Investments launched this fund in May 1992, so it has a long track record.
As of March 31, 2025, the abrdn Life Sciences Investors fund owned 136 stocks. Its top positions include Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Amgen, Gilead Sciences, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and Alnylam Pharmaceuticals.
This CEF currently pays a distribution yield of 15.06%. It's also available at a discount of 9.36% below the net asset value (NAV). The abrdn Life Sciences Investors fund uses relatively low leverage, with its effective leverage ratio at only 2.26%. The fund's annual expense ratio of 1.36% is also relatively low for a CEF.
Since its inception, the abrdn Life Sciences Investors fund has delivered an average annual total return (based on its market price) of 8.12%. Over the last five years, its average annual total return is 6.84%. The CEF clearly can't pay distribution yields at the current levels with those kinds of returns without eating into investors' paid-in capital.
2. BlackRock Capital Allocation Term Trust
If you're looking for a jaw-dropping yield, check out the BlackRock Capital Allocation Term Trust (NYSE: BCAT). This CEF, managed by huge investment company BlackRock, offers a distribution yield of (you might want to sit down for this)... 23.88%. Also, the fund trades at a 6.04% discount to its NAV. And it doesn't use any leverage. Too good to be true? No, although there is a catch that we'll discuss shortly.
The BlackRock Capital Allocation Term Trust invests in both equity and debt securities. Its portfolio currently includes 1,641 holdings. Top equity positions include Microsoft, Amazon, Google parent Alphabet, Mastercard, and Marsh & McLennan.
How does this CEF pay such a super-high yield? It sells options and uses the premiums to boost its distributions. With the stock market's volatility unusually high, the BlackRock Capital Allocation Term Trust is making more money from selling options than it normally does.
Now for some important details. The BlackRock Capital Allocation Term Trust has a 12-year limited term. This means that 12 years after its inception (which was on Sept. 28, 2020), the fund will liquidate its holdings and return the money to shareholders. However, the CEF has the option of converting to a perpetual fund before its term ends.
Also, the fund's average annual total return since inception is only 4.81%. The BlackRock Capital Allocation Term Trust can't pay distributions at the current level without its NAV declining.
3. BlackRock Science and Technology Term Trust
Another CEF managed by BlackRock pays a distribution yield of exactly 15% right now. I'm referring to the BlackRock Science and Technology Term Trust (NYSE: BSTZ). This fund trades at a 7.17% discount to its NAV.
This CEF shares two important things in common with the other BlackRock fund on our list. First, it has a 12-year limited term but could convert to a perpetual fund. Since the BlackRock Science and Technology Term Trust launched on June 26, 2019, the fund will liquidate its assets in another six or so years unless it converts to perpetual. Second, the CEF sells options to generate premiums to increase its distributions.
As you might have guessed, this CEF focuses on investing in science and technology companies. It currently owns 293 stocks, with top positions including Project Debussy (BlackRock's private investment in software company Databricks), Nvidia, Project Picasso (BlackRock's private investment in quantum computer company PsiQuantum), and Spotify Technology.
Is there a big fly in the ointment with this ultra-high-yielding fund? Unfortunately, yes. The BlackRock Science and Technology Term Trust has delivered an average annual total return of 8.27%. This isn't bad, but it's not nearly enough to fund the distributions at current levels without eroding an initial investment.

These 3 Funds Offer Sky-High Yields of 15% or More and Trade at a Discount

Investors in Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc (Symbol: ALNY) saw new options become available this week, for the May 16th expiration. At Stock Options Channel, our YieldBoost formula has looked up and down the ALNY options chain for the new May 16th contracts and identified one put and one call contract of particular interest.
The put contract at the $210.00 strike price has a current bid of $10.30. If an investor was to sell-to-open that put contract, they are committing to purchase the stock at $210.00, but will also collect the premium, putting the cost basis of the shares at $199.70 (before broker commissions). To an investor already interested in purchasing shares of ALNY, that could represent an attractive alternative to paying $236.24/share today.
Because the $210.00 strike represents an approximate 11% discount to the current trading price of the stock (in other words it is out-of-the-money by that percentage), there is also the possibility that the put contract would expire worthless. The current analytical data (including greeks and implied greeks) suggest the current odds of that happening are 67%. Should the contract expire worthless, the premium would represent a 4.90% return on the cash commitment, or 45.90% annualized — at Stock Options Channel we call this the YieldBoost.

Turning to the calls side of the option chain, the call contract at the $240.00 strike price has a current bid of $10.80. If an investor was to purchase shares of ALNY stock at the current price level of $236.24/share, and then sell-to-open that call contract as a "covered call," they are committing to sell the stock at $240.00. Considering the call seller will also collect the premium, that would drive a total return (excluding dividends, if any) of 6.16% if the stock gets called away at the May 16th expiration (before broker commissions). Of course, a lot of upside could potentially be left on the table if ALNY shares really soar, which is why looking at the trailing twelve month trading history for Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc, as well as studying the business fundamentals becomes important. Considering the fact that the $240.00 strike represents an approximate 2% premium to the current trading price of the stock (in other words it is out-of-the-money by that percentage), there is also the possibility that the covered call contract would expire worthless, in which case the investor would keep both their shares of stock and the premium collected. The current analytical data (including greeks and implied greeks) suggest the current odds of that happening are 59%. Should the covered call contract expire worthless, the premium would represent a 4.57% boost of extra return to the investor, or 42.79% annualized, which we refer to as the YieldBoost.
The implied volatility in the put contract example is 62%, while the implied volatility in the call contract example is 60%.

Shares of UnitedHealth have outperformed the Zacks Medical - HMOs industry over the past year (+20.5% vs. +12.3%). The company’s top line remains poised for growth on the back of a strong market position, new deals, renewed agreements and expansion of service offerings. UnitedHealth’s solid health services segment provides diversification benefits. Its Government business remains well-poised for growth in the future.

Toyota Motor’s shares have declined -30.1% over the past year against the Zacks Automotive - Foreign industry’s decline of -32.9%. The company’s significant investments in human capital and expansion initiatives are expected to weigh on operating profits this fiscal year. Elevated R&D expenditures on advanced technologies and alternative fuels support long-term innovation, but may constrain near-term margins. Rising debt levels also pose financial challenges. The stock warrants a cautious stance now.

The Invesco NASDAQ Next Gen 100 ETF (QQQJ) was launched on 10/13/2020, and is a passively managed exchange traded fund designed to offer broad exposure to the Large Cap Growth segment of the US equity market.
The fund is sponsored by Invesco. It has amassed assets over $591.14 million, making it one of the average sized ETFs attempting to match the Large Cap Growth segment of the US equity market.
Why Large Cap Growth
Companies that find themselves in the large cap category typically have a market capitalization above $10 billion. They tend to be stable companies with predictable cash flows and are usually less volatile than mid and small cap companies.
Growth stocks have higher than average sales and earnings growth rates. While these are expected to grow faster than the broader market, they also have higher valuations. Additionally, growth stocks have a greater level of risk associated with them. Compared to value stocks, growth stocks are a safer bet in a strong bull market, but don't perform as strongly in almost all other financial environments.
Costs
Cost is an important factor in selecting the right ETF, and cheaper funds can significantly outperform their more expensive counterparts if all other fundamentals are the same.
Annual operating expenses for this ETF are 0.15%, making it one of the least expensive products in the space.
It has a 12-month trailing dividend yield of 0.73%.
Sector Exposure and Top Holdings
While ETFs offer diversified exposure, which minimizes single stock risk, a deep look into a fund's holdings is a valuable exercise. And, most ETFs are very transparent products that disclose their holdings on a daily basis.
This ETF has heaviest allocation to the Information Technology sector--about 30% of the portfolio. Healthcare and Industrials round out the top three.
Looking at individual holdings, Alnylam Pharmaceuticals Inc (ALNY) accounts for about 1.98% of total assets, followed by Ebay Inc (EBAY) and United Airlines Holdings Inc (UAL).
The top 10 holdings account for about 16.77% of total assets under management.

QQQJ seeks to match the performance of the NASDAQ NEXT GENERATION 100 INDEX before fees and expenses. The NASDAQ Next Generation 100 Index comprises of securities of the next generation of Nasdaq-listed non-financial companies; that is, the largest 100 Nasdaq-listed companies outside of the NASDAQ-100 Index.
The ETF has lost about -5.75% so far this year and was up about 1.50% in the last one year (as of 04/02/2025). In the past 52-week period, it has traded between $26.60 and $32.91.
The ETF has a beta of 1.13 and standard deviation of 21.57% for the trailing three-year period. With about 110 holdings, it effectively diversifies company-specific risk.
Alternatives
Invesco NASDAQ Next Gen 100 ETF carries a Zacks ETF Rank of 3 (Hold), which is based on expected asset class return, expense ratio, and momentum, among other factors. Thus, QQQJ is a sufficient option for those seeking exposure to the Style Box - Large Cap Growth area of the market. Investors might also want to consider some other ETF options in the space.
The Vanguard Growth ETF (VUG) and the Invesco QQQ (QQQ) track a similar index. While Vanguard Growth ETF has $142.93 billion in assets, Invesco QQQ has $298.90 billion. VUG has an expense ratio of 0.04% and QQQ charges 0.20%.
Bottom-Line
Passively managed ETFs are becoming increasingly popular with institutional as well as retail investors due to their low cost, transparency, flexibility and tax efficiency. They are excellent vehicles for long term investors.
