Albemarle Corporation develops, manufactures, and markets engineered specialty chemicals worldwide. It operates through three segments: Energy Storage, Specialties and Ketjen. The Energy Storage segment offers lithium compounds, including lithium carbonate, lithium hydroxide, and lithium chloride; technical services for the handling and use of reactive lithium products; and lithium-containing by-products recycling services. The Specialties segment provides bromine-based specialty chemicals, including elemental bromine, alkyl and inorganic bromides, brominated powdered activated carbon, and other bromine fine chemicals; lithium specialties, such as butyllithium and lithium aluminum hydride; develops and manufactures cesium products for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries; and zirconium, barium, and titanium products for pyrotechnical applications that include airbag initiators. The Ketjen segment offers clean fuels technologies (CFT), which is composed of hydroprocessing catalysts (HPC) together with isomerization and akylation catalysts; fluidized catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts and additives; and performance catalyst solutions (PCS), which is composed of organometallics and curatives. The company serves the energy storage, petroleum refining, consumer electronics, construction, automotive, lubricants, pharmaceuticals, and crop protection markets. Albemarle Corporation was founded in 1887 and is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Albemarle Corporation ALB has entered into a cesium concentrate offtake agreement with Power Metals Corp. Under the agreement, ALB has agreed to a pre-payment of C$5 million to Power Metals Corp for cesium oxide concentrate from the latter’s Case Lake Project located in Ontario, Canada. The deal involves ALB's purchase of the current offtake rights held by Winsome Resources in the project.
The Case Lake Project has been of growing strategic importance as it hosts near-surface, high-grade cesium and has the potential to play a significant role in securing North America’s cesium supply chain. While the project’s offtake rights are being assigned to ALB, Winsome will retain its 15.8% shareholding of Power Metals. Albemarle’s participation strengthens Power Metals’ Canadian critical minerals strategy by securing downstream expertise in high-value cesium chemicals and supporting the development of an integrated cesium market.
The transfer of offtake rights from Hong Kong-based Sinomine Resources Limited to Winsome Resources and now, Albemarle marks a shift in the global critical-minerals landscape as the focus on securing the North American supply chain increases.
The pre-payment is subject to Power Metals securing the necessary approvals and permits to commence mining at Case Lake. It has laid out financing in stages as key development milestones are achieved, with the first portion amounting to C$2M paid following execution of the pre-payment commitment and the second C$3M paid on delivery of Environmental Compliance Approval for the Case Lake Project in 2026.
ALB’s shares have gained 36.1% over the past year compared with the industry’s 17% decline.

Zacks Industry Outlook Highlights Air Products and Chemicals, Albemarle and Avient

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) on Friday closed up by +0.19%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) closed up by +0.22%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) closed up by +0.43%. December E-mini S&P futures (ESZ25) rose +0.19%, and December E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQZ25) rose up +0.43%.
Stock indexes settled higher on Friday, with the S&P 500 climbing to a 5-week high, the Nasdaq 100 reaching a 1-month high, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average hitting a 3-week high. Optimism about the economic outlook and the prospects of Fed rate cuts are supporting stock prices. Market seasonals are also supportive of stocks, as December is typically a bullish month. Strength in semiconductor stocks on Friday was another supportive factor for the broader market.

Stocks also rose on Friday on benign inflation news after the Sep core PCE price index rose as expected, and the University of Michigan's US December inflation expectations eased to an 11-month low. In addition, the University of Michigan US Dec consumer sentiment index rose more than expected. Gains in stocks were limited amid rising bond yields, with the 10-year T-note hitting a 2-week high of 4.14% on Friday.
US Sep personal spending rose +0.3% m/m, right on expectations. Sep personal income rose +0.4% m/m, stronger than expectations of +0.3% m/m.
The US Sep core PCE price index, the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, rose +0.3% m/m and +2.8% y/y, right on expectations.
The University of Michigan US Dec consumer sentiment index rose by +2.3 to 53.3, stronger than expectations of 52.0.
The University of Michigan US Dec 1-year inflation expectations eased to 4.1%, better than expectations of no change at 4.5% and the smallest pace of increase in 11 months. Dec 5-10 year inflation expectations eased to +3.2%, better than expectations of no change at 3.4% and the smallest pace of increase in 11 months.
President Trump said on Tuesday that he will announce his selection for the new Fed Chair in early 2026. Bloomberg reported last week that National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett is seen as the likely choice to succeed Powell. The Fed’s independence would come into question, as Hassett supports President Trump’s approach to cutting interest rates at the Fed.
The markets are discounting a 95% chance of another -25 bp rate cut at the next FOMC meeting on December 9-10.
Q3 corporate earnings season is drawing to a close as 475 of the 500 S&P companies have released results. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, 83% of reporting S&P 500 companies exceeded forecasts, on course for the best quarter since 2021. Q3 earnings rose +14.6%, more than doubling expectations of +7.2% y/y.
Overseas stock markets settled mixed on Friday. The Euro Stoxx 50 rose to a 3-week high and closed up +0.10%. China’s Shanghai Composite closed up +0.70%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -1.05%.
Interest Rates
March 10-year T-notes (ZNH6) on Friday closed down -6.5 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield rose +4.1 bp to 4.139%. Mar T-note futures fell to a 2-week low on Friday, and the 10-year T-note yield rose to a 2-week high of 4.143%. Friday's strength in stocks curbed safe-haven demand for T-notes. Also, rising inflation expectations are bearish for T-notes after the 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 2-week high of 2.284% on Friday. In addition, T-notes were weighed down by negative carryover from a fall in Japanese 10-year JGB bond prices to an 18-year low today, amid prospects for a BOJ rate hike later this month.
Losses in T-notes are limited today due to favorable inflation news after the Sep core PCE price index rose as expected, and the University of Michigan US December inflation expectations eased to an 11-month low.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German bund yield matched an 8-month high of 2.801% and finished up by +2.8 bp to 2.798%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose by +4.2 bp to 4.476%.
Eurozone Q3 GDP was revised up slightly to +0.3% q/q and +1.4% y/y from the previously reported +0.2% q/q and +1.4% y/y.
German Oct factory orders rose +1.5% m/m, stronger than expectations of +0.3% m/m.
Swaps are discounting a 1% chance for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at its next policy meeting on December 18.
US Stock Movers
Strength in chip makers on Friday was a bullish factor for the overall market. Micron Technology (MU) closed up more than +4% and GlobalFoundries (GFS) closed up more than +3%. Also, Intel (INTC) and Broadcom (AVGO) closed up more than +2%. In addition, Microchip Technology (MCHP), Texas Instruments (TXN), NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), Analog Devices (ADI), and Lam Research (LRCX) closed up more than +1%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks retreated on Friday after Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) fell more than -3%. ServiceTitan (TTAN) closed up more than +9% after reporting a Q3 loss of -42 cents per share, smaller than the consensus of -45 cents.
Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) closed up more than +6% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100 after being acquired by Netflix for about $72 billion or $27.75 a share.
Salesforce (CRM) closed up more than +5% to lead gainers in the Dow Jones Industrials, adding to Thursday’s +3% gain after raising its 2026 adjusted EPS forecast.

Stocks Finish Higher as Price Pressures Ease

The S&P 500 Index ($SPX) (SPY) today is up by +0.32%, the Dow Jones Industrials Index ($DOWI) (DIA) is up by +0.34%, and the Nasdaq 100 Index ($IUXX) (QQQ) is up by +0.48%. December E-mini S&P futures (ESZ25) are up +0.30%, and December E-mini Nasdaq futures (NQZ25) are up +0.47%.
Stock indexes are rallying today, with the S&P 500 climbing to a 5-week high, the Nasdaq 100 reaching a 1-month high, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average hitting a 3-week high. Optimism about the economic outlook and the prospects of Fed rate cuts are fueling a stock rally. Market seasonals are also supportive of stocks, as December is typically a bullish month. Strength in semiconductor stocks today is another supportive factor for the broader market.

Stocks added to their gains today on benign inflation news after the Sep core PCE price index rose as expected, and the University of Michigan US December inflation expectations eased to an 11-month low. Also, the University of Michigan US Dec consumer sentiment index rose more than expected. Gains in stocks are limited amid rising bond yields, with the 10-year T-note hitting a 2-week high of 4.13% today.
US Sep personal spending rose +0.3% m/m, right on expectations. Sep personal income rose +0.4% m/m, stronger than expectations of +0.3% m/m.
The US Sep core PCE price index, the Fed's preferred inflation gauge, rose +0.3% m/m and +2.8% y/y, right on expectations.
The University of Michigan US Dec consumer sentiment index rose by +2.3 to 53.3, stronger than expectations of 52.0.
The University of Michigan US Dec 1-year inflation expectations eased to 4.1%, better than expectations of no change at 4.5% and the smallest pace of increase in 11 months. Dec 5-10 year inflation expectations eased to +3.2%, better than expectations of no change at 3.4% and the smallest pace of increase in 11 months.
President Trump said on Tuesday that he will announce his selection for the new Fed Chair in early 2026. Bloomberg reported last week that National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett is seen as the likely choice to succeed Powell. The Fed’s independence would come into question, as Hassett supports President Trump’s approach to cutting interest rates at the Fed.
The markets are discounting a 95% chance of another -25 bp rate cut at the next FOMC meeting on December 9-10.
Q3 corporate earnings season is drawing to a close as 475 of the 500 S&P companies have released results. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, 83% of reporting S&P 500 companies exceeded forecasts, on course for the best quarter since 2021. Q3 earnings rose +14.6%, more than doubling expectations of +7.2% y/y.
Overseas stock markets are mixed today. The Euro Stoxx 50 rose to a 3-week high and is up +0.40%. China’s Shanghai Composite closed up +0.70%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 closed down -1.05%.
Interest Rates
March 10-year T-notes (ZNH6) today are down -3 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is up +2.9 bp to 4.127%. Mar T-note futures fell to a 2-week low today, and the 10-year T-note yield rose to a 2-week high of 4.129%. Today's strength in stocks has curbed safe-haven demand for T-notes. Also, rising inflation expectations are bearish for T-notes after the 10-year breakeven inflation rate rose to a 2-week high of 2.284% today. In addition, T-notes are weighed down by negative carryover from a fall in Japanese 10-year JGB bond prices to an 18-year low today, amid prospects for a BOJ rate hike later this month.
Losses in T-notes are limited today due to favorable inflation news after the Sep core PCE price index rose as expected, and the University of Michigan US December inflation expectations eased to an 11-month low.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German bund yield climbed to a 3-month high of 2.796% and is up by +2.3 bp to 2.793%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is up by +3.4 bp to 4.469%.
Eurozone Q3 GDP was revised up slightly to +0.3% q/q and +1.4% y/y from the previously reported +0.2% q/q and +1.4% y/y.
German Oct factory orders rose +1.5% m/m, stronger than expectations of +0.3% m/m.
Swaps are discounting a 1% chance for a -25 bp rate cut by the ECB at its next policy meeting on December 18.
US Stock Movers
Strength in chip makers today is a bullish factor for the overall market. GlobalFoundries (GFS) is up more than +5%, and Intel (INTC) and Microchip Technology (MCHP) are up more than +3%. Also, Micron Technology (MU) and Texas Instruments (TXN) are up more than +2%. In addition, Broadcom (AVGO), NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI), Analog Devices (ADI), ON Semiconductor (ON), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Marvell Technology (MRVL) are up more than +1%.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks are under pressure today with Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) down by more than -2%. Riot Platforms (RIOT), MARA Holdings (MARA), and Galaxy Digital Holdings (GLXY) are down more than -4%. Also, Strategy (MSTR) is down more than -3% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100. In addition, Coinbase Global (COIN) is down more than -2%.

Stocks Rally on Benign Inflation News

In trading on Friday, the VanEck Rare Earth/Strategic Metals ETF is outperforming other ETFs, up about 2.2% on the day. Components of that ETF showing particular strength include shares of Albemarle, up about 6.7% and shares of Tronox Holdings, up about 2.9% on the day.
And underperforming other ETFs today is the Uranium ETF, down about 2.9% in Friday afternoon trading. Among components of that ETF with the weakest showing on Friday were shares of Nexgen Energy, lower by about 5.6%, and shares of Centrus Energy, lower by about 5.5% on the day.

Friday's ETF Movers: REMX, URA

A month has gone by since the last earnings report for Albemarle (ALB). Shares have added about 30.6% in that time frame, outperforming the S&P 500.
Will the recent positive trend continue leading up to its next earnings release, or is Albemarle due for a pullback? Well, first let's take a quick look at the most recent earnings report in order to get a better handle on the recent drivers for Albemarle Corporation before we dive into how investors and analysts have reacted as of late.
Albemarle's Earnings and Revenues Surpass Estimates in Q3
Albemarle logged adjusted losses (barring one-time items) of 19 cents per share in the third quarter of 2025. This compares to losses of $1.55 per share a year ago. The figure was narrower than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of a loss of 92 cents.
Revenues fell roughly 3.5% year over year to $1,307.8 million in the quarter. The top line beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1,292 million. The top line was hurt by lower prices in the Energy Storage segment, partly offset by the volume growth in the Energy Storage and Ketjen.
Adjusted EBITDA for the reported quarter was $225.6 million, up from $211.5 million in the prior-year quarter. Lower input costs and cost reduction efforts offset reduced lithium pricing.
Segment Highlights
Sales from the Energy Storage unit fell around 7.6% year over year to $708.8 million. It surpassed the consensus estimate of $678 million. The decline in sales was attributed to reduced pricing. Sales volumes were up 8% due to higher spodumene sales, record production from integrated conversion facilities and inventory reductions.
The Specialties segment recorded sales of $345 million, up around 0.8% year over year. It was below the consensus estimate of $349 million. Foreign exchange benefits more than offset lower volume.
The Ketjen unit recorded revenues of $254.1 million in the reported quarter, up roughly 3.7% year over year. It beat the consensus estimate of $248 million. Higher volumes were partially offset by lower prices.
Financial Position
Albemarle ended the quarter with cash and cash equivalents of roughly $1,931.8 million, up from $1,664.5 million reported in the prior-year quarter. Long-term debt was around $3,181 million, up around 2% sequentially.
Cash from operations was around $893.8 million for the first nine months of 2025, up 29% from the prior-year period.
2025 Outlook
Albemarle is taking actions to improve costs, productivity and efficiencies to preserve its long-term competitive position. It has raised the full-year outlook for the enterprise and Energy Storage. For the full year 2025, results are expected to be near the higher end of the earlier $9/kg forecast range because of strong performance, higher lithium prices, and higher-than-expected Energy Storage sales. The outlook for Ketjen and Specialties remains the same.
Albemarle expects capital expenditures for full-year 2025 to be roughly $600 million.
Albemarle expects depreciation and amortization expenses of $630-$670 million for 2025. Corporate costs are expected to be $10-$30 million, while Interest and financing expenses are forecast to be $180-$210 million for the full year.
