It operates in three segments: Ag Services and Oilseeds, Carbohydrate Solutions, and Nutrition. The company originates, merchandises, stores, and transports agricultural raw materials, such as oilseeds and soft seeds. It also engages in the agricultural commodity and feed product import, export, and distribution; and various structured trade finance activities. In addition, the company offers soybean meal and oil; vegetable and salad oils and protein meals; ingredients for the food, feed, energy, and industrial customers; margarine, shortening, and other food products; and partially refined oils to produce biodiesel and glycols for use in chemicals, paints, and other industrial products. Further, it provides peanuts, peanut-derived ingredients, and cotton cellulose pulp; sweeteners, corn and wheat starches, syrup, glucose, wheat flour, and dextrose; alcohol, and other food and animal feed ingredients; ethyl alcohol and ethanol; corn gluten feed and meal; distillers' grains; corn germ; and citric acids. Additionally, the company provides proteins, natural flavors, flavor systems, natural colors, emulsifiers, soluble fiber, polyols, hydrocolloids, probiotics, prebiotics, postbiotics, enzymes, and botanical extracts; and other specialty food and feed ingredients; edible beans; formula feeds, and animal health and nutrition products; and contract and private label pet treats and food products. It also offers futures commission merchant; commodity brokerage services; cash margins and securities pledged to commodity exchange clearinghouse; and cash pledged as security under certain insurance arrangements. The company was founded in 1902 and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

Archer Daniels Balances Cost Cuts and Growth Investments: What's Next?

It has been about a month since the last earnings report for FMC (FMC). Shares have added about 4.5% in that time frame, outperforming the S&P 500.

Fourth-quarter revenues decreased primarily due to a steep price decline, mainly in Rynaxypyr. The competition was also intense for core products, especially in Latin America, leading to stunted volumes.
Regional Sales Performance
In North America, sales increased 3% year over year to $350.5 million in the quarter. Sales in North America increased as a result of higher volumes driven by herbicides and fungicides, and strong growth of fluindapyr. Sales topped the consensus estimate of $346.7 million.
Latin American sales saw a 5% year-over-year decrease to $371.1 million in the reported quarter. Sales in Latin America suffered from increased pressure from generics, leading to lower volumes and price declines of branded products. It missed the consensus estimate of $416.3 million.
In Asia, excluding India, revenues declined 41.1% from the previous year to $180.7 million. Sales declined due to lower volumes driven by weather and the price declines of the branded products. It missed the consensus estimate of $186.3 million.
EMEA experienced a 2% year-over-year sales decrease to $183.8 million in the reported quarter. The downside was primarily due to lower volumes from adverse weather and weak grower economics. It lagged the consensus estimate of $196.9 million.
Financials
The company had cash and cash equivalents of $584.5 million at the end of the quarter. Long-term debt was around $2.77 billion.
Guidance
FMC expects first-quarter revenues to range between $725 million and $775 million, implying a 5% decline at the midpoint compared to 2025. Adjusted EBITDA is forecasted between $45 million and $55 million, indicating a 58% decline at the midpoint. Adjusted loss per share is projected to be 32 cents to 44 cents, indicating a 56-cent year-over-year decrease at the midpoint.
Additionally, full-year revenues are expected to range between $3.6 billion and $3.80 billion, implying a 5% decline at the midpoint compared to the previous year. Adjusted EBITDA is expected to be $670-$730 million, indicating a decline of 17% at the midpoint compared to the prior year. Adjusted EPS is expected to be between $1.63 and $1.89, calling for a year-on-year decrease of 41% at the midpoint.
FMC also announced its strategic priorities for 2026 and its board’s authorization to explore strategic options, including, but not limited to, the sale of the company.

Why Is FMC (FMC) Up 4.5% Since Last Earnings Report?

Investors in Archer Daniels Midland Co. (Symbol: ADM) saw new options begin trading today, for the March 2027 expiration. One of the key inputs that goes into the price an option buyer is willing to pay, is the time value, so with 387 days until expiration the newly trading contracts represent a possible opportunity for sellers of puts or calls to achieve a higher premium than would be available for the contracts with a closer expiration. Data service and software stocks retreated on Tuesday, dragging the broader market lower, following the release of an automation tool for lawyers by artificial-intelligence firm Anthropic. Also, chip makers and AI-infrastructure stocks gave up an early rally and fell sharply as investors rotated out of tech stocks into more economically sensitive industries.

Palantir Technologies closed up more than +5% after forecasting 2026 revenue that significantly exceeded expectations. Also, Teradyne closed up by more than +11% after forecasting Q1 revenue well above consensus.
Mining stocks rallied on Tuesday after the price of gold jumped more than +6% and silver prices soared more than +8%. Precious metals are rebounding after the sharp selloff seen over the past two sessions.
Cryptocurrency-exposed stocks tumbled on Tuesday after Bitcoin (^BTCUSD) fell more than 3% to a 1.25-year low, as the rout in equity markets sparked risk-off sentiment across other asset markets.

On Thursday, initial weekly unemployment claims are expected to increase by 3,000 to 212,000. On Friday, the University of Michigan Jan consumer sentiment index is expected to fall -1.5 to 54.9.
Q4 earnings season is in full swing, with 150 of the S&P 500 companies scheduled to report earnings this week. Earnings have been a positive factor for stocks, with 80% of the 195 S&P 500 companies that have reported beating expectations. According to Bloomberg Intelligence, S&P earnings growth is expected to climb by +8.4% in Q4, marking the tenth consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth. Excluding the Magnificent Seven megacap technology stocks, Q4 earnings are expected to increase by +4.6%.
The markets are discounting a 9% chance for a -25 bp rate cut at the next policy meeting on March 17-18.
Overseas stock markets settled mixed on Tuesday. The Euro Stoxx 50 fell from a new all-time high and closed down by -0.20%. China’s Shanghai Composite rebounded from a 4-week low and closed up +1.29%. Japan’s Nikkei Stock 225 climbed to a new record high and closed up sharply by +3.92%.
Interest Rates
March 10-year T-notes (ZNH6) today closed unchanged. The 10-year T-note yield fell -0.7 bp to 4.270%. Mar T-notes recovered from a 1.5-week low on Tuesday, and the 10-year T-note yield fell from a 1.5-week high of 4.298%. T-notes recovered from early losses today on an increase in safe-haven demand after US-Iranian tensions ramped up when the US Navy shot down an Iranian drone that was approaching a US aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea. Also, Tuesday’s selloff in stocks boosted safe-haven demand for T-notes.
T-notes initially moved lower on Tuesday on negative carryover from Monday, after the Jan ISM manufacturing index expanded by the most in more than 3.25 years, and after Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic said he doesn't project any rate cuts for 2026, dampening expectations of further Fed rate cuts. Also, comments on Tuesday from Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin weighed on T-notes, as he said the US economic outlook is improving and inflation is still running above the Fed's goal.
T-notes also have some negative carryover from last Friday when President Trump nominated Keven Warsh as the next Fed Chair. Mr. Warsh is seen as more hawkish than other Fed Chair candidates and often emphasized inflation risks during his tenure as a Fed Governor from 2006-2011.
European government bond yields moved higher on Tuesday. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 1-week high of 2.903% and finished up +2.3 bp to 2.891%. The 10-year UK gilt yield rose +1.1 bp to 4.517%.
The French Jan CPI (EU harmonized) fell -0.4% m/m and rose +0.4% y/y, weaker than expectations of -0.2% m/m and +0.6% y/y.
Swaps are discounting a 2% chance of a +25 bp rate hike by the ECB at Thursday’s policy meeting.
US Stock Movers
Data service and software stocks retreated on Tuesday following the release of an automation tool for lawyers by artificial intelligence firm Anthropic. Thomson Reuters Corp (TRI) closed down by more than -15%, and EPAM Systems (EPAM) closed down more than -13%. Also, Intuit (INTU) and FactSet Research Systems (FDS) closed down by more than -10%, and ServiceNow (NOW) and Adobe (ADBE) closed down by more than -7%. In addition, Salesforce (CRM) closed down by more than -6% to lead losers in the Dow Jones Industrials.
NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) closed down more than -5% to lead chip stocks lower after reporting Q4 automotive revenue of $1.88 billion, below the consensus of $1.89 billion. Also, KLA Corp (KLAC) and Micron Technology (MU) closed down more than -4%, and Marvell Technology (MRVL), ASML Holding NV (ASML), Broadcom (AVGO), Applied Materials (AMAT), and Lam Research (LRCX) closed down more than -3%.
Gartner (IT) closed down more than -21% to lead IT stocks lower and losers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q4 consulting segment revenue of $133.6 million, weaker than the consensus of $157.9 million. Also, International Business Machines (IBM) closed down by more than -6%.
Travel booking companies sold off on Tuesday after Bloomberg Intelligence said Google’s AI Travel planner poses a risk to booking platforms. As a result, Expedia Group (EXPE) closed down more than -15%, Booking Holdings (BKNG) closed down more than -9%, and TripAdvisor (TRIP) closed down more than -5%.
Gold and silver mining stocks moved higher on Tuesday after gold rose more than +6% and silver rose more than +8%. Hecla Mining (HL) closed up more than +8%, and Freeport McMoRan (FCX) closed up more than +6%. Also, Coeur Mining (CDE) closed up more than +4%, Newmont Corp (NEM) closed up more than 3%, and Barrick Mining (B) closed up more than +2%.
PayPal Holdings (PYPL) closed down more than -20% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100 after reporting Q4 net revenue of $8.68 billion, weaker than the consensus of $8.79 billion and announcing that CEO Chriss will be replaced by HP Inc CEO Lores.
Fabrinet (FN) closed down more than -10% after the company’s results showed component constraints pressuring the datacom business, with Q2 datacom revenue down -7% y/y at $278 million.
TransDigm Group (TDG) closed down more than -9% after forecasting full-year EBITDA of $5.14 billion to $5.28 billion, with the midpoint below the consensus of $5.24 billion.
Pfizer (PFE) closed down more than -3% after forecasting full-year revenue of $59.5 billion to $62.5 billion, the midpoint below the consensus of $61.02 billion.
Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM) closed down more than -1% after reporting Q4 revenue of $18.56 billion, well below the consensus of $21.05 billion.
DaVita (DVA) closed up more than +21% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q4 total revenue of $3.62 billion, above the consensus of $3.51 billion.
Woodward Inc (WWD) closed up more than +13% after reporting Q1 adjusted EPS of $2.17, stronger than the consensus of $1.65.

Stocks Tumble on AI Disruption Fears

Archer Daniels Midland Company ADM posted fourth-quarter 2025 results, wherein the top line fell short of the Zacks Consensus Estimate and declined year over year. Meanwhile, earnings surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate but declined from the same period last year.
Insight Into ADM’s Q4 Performance
Adjusted earnings of 87 cents per share surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 83 cents. However, the figure decreased from adjusted earnings of $1.14 per share in the year-ago quarter. On a reported basis, Archer Daniels’ third-quarter earnings were 94 cents per share, down from $1.17 reported in the year-ago quarter.
Archer Daniels Midland Company Price, Consensus and EPS Surprise
Revenues declined 13.7% year over year to $18.6 billion and lagged the consensus estimate of $22.3 billion.
Segment-wise, revenues for Ag Services & Oilseeds fell 16.9% year over year to $14 billion, while Carbohydrate Solutions’ revenues decreased 3.9% year over year to $2.6 billion. Nutrition’s revenues rose 0.7% year over year to $1.8 billion. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for these segments’ revenues was pegged at $17.7 billion, $2.6 billion and $1.9 billion, respectively. Revenues from Other Business are almost flat at $117 million compared with the figure in the prior-year period.
The gross profit decreased 10.7% year over year to $1.2 billion, while the gross margin stood at 6.5%. Selling, general and administrative expenses declined to $893 million from $943 million in the year-ago quarter.
Archer Daniels reported adjusted segmental operating profit of $821 million, down 22% from the year-ago quarter.
The company has a trailing four-quarter return on invested capital of 6.3% on an adjusted basis.
ADM’s Segmental Operating Profit
Adjusted operating profit for Ag Services & Oilseeds dropped 31% year over year to $444 million. The Ag Services subsegment’s operating profit declined 31% year over year, primarily reflecting lower soybean export activity from North America and unfavorable mark-to-market impacts. This quarter included $1 million in net negative mark-to-market impacts, versus $50 million in net positive impacts in the prior-year period.
The Crushing subsegment’s operating profit plunged 69% year over year as weaker crush margins in both North and South America more than offset higher global crush volumes. Results were further pressured by approximately $20 million in net negative mark-to-market impacts during the quarter, compared with a neutral impact in the prior-year period.
Refined Products and Other operating profit were down 2% from the prior year due to lower refining margins. Margins were pressured by weaker food demand and softer fuel demand amid delayed clarity on U.S. biofuel policy. The quarter included approximately $22 million in net positive mark-to-market impacts, compared with roughly $50 million in net negative impacts in the prior-year period, which partially offset the margin pressure. Equity earnings from ADM’s investment in Wilmar were about 49% higher year over year.
The Carbohydrate Solutions segment posted an operating profit of $299 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, reflecting a 6% decline from the year-ago period. Operating profit in the Starches & Sweeteners subsegment also fell 16% due to lower global S&S demand, which pressured both volumes and margins. The subsegment also continued to face higher corn costs in EMEA stemming from corn quality issues, further weighing on profitability.
Results were further impacted by a tougher comparison, as the prior-year quarter reflected $37 million in insurance proceeds from the Decatur East and West claims, compared with only $4 million related to the Decatur West claim in the fourth quarter of 2025.
Vantage Corn Processors’ subsegment operating profit surged 187% year over year, supported by firm ethanol industry margins during October and November, followed by a typical seasonal decline in December. Strong export demand reduced industry inventories on a year-over-year basis, partially offsetting domestic seasonal softness.
The Nutrition segment reported an operating profit of $78 million in the fourth quarter of 2025, marking an 11% decrease from the same period last year. Operating profit in the Human Nutrition subsegment fell 10% year over year, largely reflecting the absence of insurance proceeds. Within this segment, Flavors’ operating profit increased, driven primarily by strong sales in North America, with additional support from Europe and Asia Pacific. Specialty Ingredients continued its recovery over the course of the quarter, while Health & Wellness posted lower operating profit, mainly due to strategic actions aimed at normalizing inventory levels and optimizing cash flow.
Meanwhile, the Animal Nutrition subsegment’s operating profit decreased 15% year over year, primarily due to localized volume softness and the impact of one-time items.
Archer Daniels’ Other Financials
The company ended the quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $1.02 billion, long-term debt, including current maturities, of $7.6 billion, and shareholders’ equity of $34.7 billion. As of Dec. 31, 2025, ADM generated $5.45 billion in cash from operating activities. It paid out dividends of $987 million during 2025.
Given a balanced approach to capital allocation, management has announced a 2% hike in the quarterly dividend. The company’s board has declared a cash dividend of 52 cents per share, up from 51 cents per share. This is payable March 10, 2026, to its shareholders of record as of Feb. 17. This is the company’s 94th straight year of uninterrupted dividends.
ADM’s 2026 Outlook
For 2026, ADM expects adjusted EPS of approximately $3.60-$4.25. The lower end of the range reflects continued deferral of U.S. biofuel policy clarity and largely flat crush margins, while the upper end assumes sustained crush margin expansion, progress on manufacturing efficiency initiatives and strengthening customer demand.
From a segment perspective, the outlook for 2026 assumes year-over-year operating profit growth in Ag Services & Oilseeds, supported by improving global trade flows and a range of potential crush margin outcomes. Carbohydrate Solutions’ operating profit is expected to remain flat, as reduced starches and sweeteners volumes and pricing are offset by higher ethanol margins. Nutrition is anticipated to continue delivering stronger organic growth and improved execution.
Capital expenditures for 2026 are projected to be in the range of $1.3-$1.5 billion, reflecting continued investment in strategic priorities and operational efficiencies.

March 10-year T-notes (ZNH6) today are down by -2 ticks. The 10-year T-note yield is up +0.8 bp to 4.286%. Mar T-notes fell to a 1.5-week low today, and the 10-year T-note yield rose to a 1.5-week high of 4.298%. T-notes are under pressure today on negative carryover from Monday, after the Jan ISM manufacturing index expanded by the most in more than 3.25 years, and after Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic said he doesn't project any rate cuts for 2026, dampening expectations of further Fed rate cuts.
T-notes also have some negative carryover from last Friday when President Trump nominated Keven Warsh as the next Fed Chair. Mr. Warsh is seen as more hawkish than other Fed Chair candidates and often emphasized inflation risks during his tenure as a Fed Governor from 2006-2011.
European government bond yields are moving higher today. The 10-year German bund yield rose to a 1-week high of 2.903% and is up +2.4 bp to 2.892%. The 10-year UK gilt yield is up +1.0 bp to 4.516%.
The French Jan CPI (EU harmonized) fell -0.4% m/m and rose +0.4% y/y, weaker than expectations of -0.2% m/m and +0.6% y/y.
Swaps are discounting a 1% chance of a +25 bp rate hike by the ECB at Thursday’s policy meeting.
US Stock Movers
Data service and software stocks are retreating today following the release of an automation tool for lawyers by artificial intelligence firm Anthropic. Thomson Reuters Corp (TRI) is down by more than -17%, and Intuit (INTU) and FactSet Research Systems (FDS) are down by more than -9%. Also, EPAM Systems (EPAM) is down more than -8%, and ServiceNow (NOW) is down more than -7%. In addition, Salesforce (CRM) and Adobe (ADBE) are down more than -6%.
Gold and silver mining stocks are moving higher today, with gold up more than 6% and silver up more than 13%. Freeport McMoRan (FCX) and Hecla Mining (HL) are up more than +6%. Also, Coeur Mining (CDE) is up more than +5%, and Newmont Corp (NEM) and Barrick Mining (B) are up more than +4%.
Gartner (IT) is down more than -25% to lead IT stocks lower and losers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q4 consulting segment revenue of $133.6 million, weaker than the consensus of $157.9 million. Also, International Business Machines (IBM) is down by more than -8% to lead the Dow Jones Industrials' losers.
PayPal Holdings (PYPL) is down more than -18% to lead losers in the Nasdaq 100 after reporting Q4 net revenue of $8.68 billion, weaker than the consensus of $8.79 billion and announcing that CEO Chriss will be replaced by HP Inc CEO Lores.
Fabrinet (FN) is down more than -12% after the company’s results showed component constraints pressuring the datacom business, with Q2 datacom revenue down -7% y/y at $278 million.
TransDigm Group (TDG) is down more than -11% after forecasting full-year EBITDA of $5.14 billion to $5.28 billion, with the midpoint below the consensus of $5.24 billion.
NXP Semiconductors NV (NXPI) is down more than -7% after reporting Q4 automotive revenue of $1.88 billion, below the consensus of $1.89 billion.
Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM) is down more than -3% after reporting Q4 revenue of $18.56 billion, well below the consensus of $21.05 billion.
Pfizer (PFE) is down more than -3% after forecasting full-year revenue of $59.5 billion to $62.5 billion, the midpoint below the consensus of $61.02 billion.
DaVita (DVA) is up more than +25% to lead gainers in the S&P 500 after reporting Q4 total revenue of $3.62 billion, above the consensus of $3.51 billion.
Woodward Inc (WWD) is up more than +14% after reporting Q1 adjusted EPS of $2.17, stronger than the consensus of $1.65.
Teradyne Inc (TER) is up more than +13% after reporting Q4 net revenue of $1.08 billion, stronger than the consensus of $964.2 million, and forecasting Q1 revenue of $1,15 billion to $1.25 billion, well above the consensus of $929.8 million.
AES Corp (AES) is up more than +9% after Bloomberg reported that BlackRock Inc.’s Global Infrastructure Partners has teamed up with EQT AB in a bid to acquire the company.
Western Digital (WDC) is up more than +7% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100 after its board authorized an additional $4 billion of share repurchases.
Palantir Technologies (PLTR) is up more than +5% to lead gainers in the Nasdaq 100 after reporting Q4 revenue of $1.41 billion, better than the consensus of $1.33 billion, and forecasting 2026 revenue of $7.18 billion to $7.20 billion, well above the consensus of $6.27 billion.
FedEx (FDX) is up more than +4% after Bernstein upgraded the stock to outperform from market perform with a price target of $427.
Merck & Co (MRK) is up more than +2% after reporting Q4 sales of $16.40 billion, better than the consensus of $16.17 billion.
