Stitch Fix (NASDAQ: SFIX) stock was more or less humming merrily along at the start of this week, until it fell into a ditch Thursday morning. That gaping hole was the company's latest set of quarterly earnings, which despite looking outwardly impressive had several areas of concern.
As a result, on a week-to-date basis the fashion stock was down notably in price Thursday night. According to data compiled by S&P Global Market Intelligence, the company's equity had lost almost 17% of its value in those days.

Stitched up
After market close Wednesday, Stitch Fix took the wraps off its fiscal fourth quarter of 2025. When adjusted for an extra week in the same period of 2024, the company's net revenue rose by 4% year over year to slightly over $311 million. The GAAP net loss narrowed considerably, to under $8.6 million, or $0.07 per share, against the year-ago deficit of more than $36 million.
Both headline figures beat the consensus analyst estimates. Pundits tracking Stitch Fix stock were modeling less than $305 million on the top line, and a net loss per share of $0.10.
Improvements and beats in those two important metrics would, all things being equal, inspire investors to push into any stock. Stitch Fix is different, however, as those achievements masked one particular concerning development.
Not getting a Fix
Stitch Fix is anchored by its Fix service, in which customers can subscribe to either occasional or regular deliveries of clothes picked by the company's stylists, paying for the ones he or she elects to keep. So the service's subscriber numbers are crucial -- if they're not rising, the company's growth will likely not be robust.
And they're not rising. Stitch Fix revealed that its count of active clients -- defined as those who checked out a Fix or bought an item through the company's Freestyle marketplace -- was slightly more than 2.3 million for the quarter. That meant a worrying decrease pf nearly 8% year over year.

Why Stitch Fix Stock Was Plummeting This Week

In trading on Thursday, auto dealerships shares were relative laggards, down on the day by about 3%. Helping drag down the group were shares of Carmax, down about 20.1% and shares of Lithia Motors off about 5% on the day.

Stitch Fix, Inc. SFIX reported fourth-quarter fiscal 2025 results, wherein the top and bottom lines beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate. The top line declined from the year-earlier quarter. Meanwhile, the bottom line fared better year over year.
The company’s progress was driven by the successful execution of its transformation strategy, highlighted by enhancements to client experience and product assortment. More on Stitch Fix’s Q4 Results
SFIX reported an adjusted loss of 7 cents per share, narrower than the Zacks Consensus Estimate of an adjusted loss of 13 cents. The metric was also narrower than the loss of 12 cents incurred in the year-ago quarter.
Stitch Fix recorded net revenues of $311.2 million, which surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $301 million. However, the metric decreased 2.6% from the year-ago quarter.
The number of active clients engaged in ongoing operations was 2,309,000, marking a year-over-year decline of 7.9%. The average net revenues generated per active client (RPAC) from ongoing operations were $549, representing an increase of 3% from the previous year, surpassing our estimate of $545. This marks the sixth straight quarter of year-over-year revenue per active customer growth, underscoring the strong engagement of clients who are joining and staying with the platform.
Fix average order value (AOV) increased 12% year over year, marking the eighth consecutive quarter of growth. This growth was fueled by a higher number of items per Fix, reflecting greater adoption of larger Fix offerings, as well as a 7.6% year-over-year increase in average unit retail, supported by the introduction of fresh, trend-right merchandise across the assortment.
Insight Into SFIX’s Margins & Expenses
In the fiscal fourth quarter, this Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) company’s gross profit declined 4.7% to $135.7 million from $142.5 million in the year-ago period. Also, the gross margin decreased 100 basis points (bps) year over year to 43.6%. The year-over-year decrease was primarily attributable to higher transportation costs stemming from carrier rate increases, including those from USPS, as well as a mix shift toward non-apparel categories. We expected the gross profit to decline 7.1% year over year to $132.4 million.
Selling, general and administrative expenses (SG&A) declined 20.3% from $184.4 million in the prior-year quarter to $146.9 million. SG&A expenses, as a percentage of net revenues, were 47.2%, down significantly from 57.7% in the prior-year quarter. We anticipated SG&A expenses to decline 17.2% year over year in the fiscal fourth quarter.
Advertising expense represented 9.5% of revenues in the fourth quarter, up 50 basis points from the prior-year period, reflecting the company’s broader reinvestment in revenues and active client growth while maintaining a disciplined approach to spending.
Stitch Fix reported an adjusted EBITDA of $8.7 million compared with $9.5 million in the year-ago quarter, reflecting its ongoing cost-management discipline. We note that the adjusted EBITDA margin declined 20 bps year over year to 2.8% in the quarter under review.

The company ended the fiscal fourth quarter with cash and cash equivalents of $114 million, short-term investments of $120.9 million, no debt, net inventory of $118.4 million and shareholders’ equity of $203 million.

The outlook for fiscal 2026 reflects a modest growth trajectory, with total revenues expected to range from $1.28 billion to $1.33 billion, indicating a 1-5% increase over the prior year. The company projects a full-year gross margin of 43-44% and adjusted EBITDA of $30-$45 million, suggesting a margin of 2.3-3.4%. Advertising expenses are forecast to be 9-10% of revenues, and Stitch Fix expects to generate positive free cash flow for the full fiscal year.

SFIX Q4 Loss Narrower Than Expected, AI Investments Boost Engagement

Shares of Stitch Fix (NASDAQ: SFIX), the online stylist, were initially higher in after-hours trading last night, but after a closer look at the report, the stock was down by double digits today. Though the e-commerce company topped estimates, investors seemed to focus on the decline in subscribers.
As of 11:07 a.m. ET on Thursday, the stock was down 16.6% on the news.

Stitch Fix is still stuck
Revenue in the quarter rose 4.4% to $311.2 million (adjusted for the extra week in the quarter a year ago), which beat estimates at $307.2 million. It was the second consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth for the company, but the decline in customers seemed to spoil that momentum for investors.
Active clients fell 7.9% year over year to 2.31 million and were down sequentially as well. Gross margin fell 100 basis points to 43.6%, and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) slipped from $9.5 million to $8.7 million.
On the basis of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), its loss per share was $0.07, which was better than the consensus for a loss of $0.10 per share.
CEO Matt Baer said: "Fiscal 2025 was a milestone year for Stitch Fix. We finished the year with our second consecutive quarter of year-over-year revenue growth on an adjusted basis, and once again gained share in the U.S. apparel market." He also called out improvements to the client experience and product assortment.
What's next for Stitch Fix
Management's guidance called for similar momentum in the fiscal first quarter, with revenue up in a range of 4.4% to 6%, for $333 million to $338 million, which was much better than estimates at $315.6 million. It also called for adjusted EBITDA of $8 million to $11 million. For the full year, it called for revenue growth of 1% to 5%.
While that forecast is certainly better than a decline, growth in the low to mid-single digits isn't enough to revive the brand. Until it can improve from that level, the stock is likely to continue to struggle.

Stitch Fix Inc. Q4 Loss Decreases

Markets continued to press pause this week after a nice run following the Fed decision a week ago to lower interest rates by 25 basis points (bps), with more cuts to come. Going back to last week, this sent major market indexes up to record highs. We started giving a little of this back starting yesterday and continuing into today.
The Dow slipped -171 points, +0.37% on the day, with the S&P 500 down -18 points and the Nasdaq -75, -0.73%. The small-cap Russell 2000 slid the farthest: -22 points, -0.92%. Market indexes are pretty flat over the past five trading days, but that was after setting record-high close after record-high close. Bond yields are steady on the 10-year side, +4.15%, while inching up on the 2-year: +3.61%.
KB Home, StitchFix Report Earnings After the Bell
Homebuilding major KB Home KBH reports Q3 earnings after today’s closing bell, beating estimates solidly on the bottom line — $1.61 per share versus expectations of $1.50 — on revenues that barely outpaced forecasts: $1.62 billion versus $1.60 billion. The company also announced the repurchase of $188.5 million in stock.
Late-trading of KBH shares has been extremely volatile on the news, and currently reside down -0.50%. Revenues for the fiscal year have been lowered notably to $6.10-6.20 billion from the $6.4 billion anticipated in the Zacks consensus, which is likely the main culprit to the late-day underperformance. The Average Selling Price per home rose to $475,700.
StitchFix SFIX put in markedly better results in its fiscal Q4 report this afternoon, posting a loss per share of -$0.07, better than the -$0.13 estimated and the -$0.12 per share reported in the year-ago quarter. Revenues of $311.2 million were well past the $301.3 million analysts were looking for, down just -2.6% year over year. Shares are up +10% on the news, adding to the company’s +30.8% gains year to date.
New Home Sales Up +20% in August
Speaking of new homes, earlier this morning the New Home Sales report for August came out, surging past expectations to a clean +800K new seasonally adjusted, annualized homes having been sold, +20.5% year over year and well past the +649K estimate, which was upwardly revised to +665K. This +800K figure is the highest single-month tally since January of 2022.
The Northeast saw the biggest gains for the month, +72.2%, followed by the South at +24.7%, the Midwest at +12.7% and the West, which led all regions for July new home sales, rose just +5.6%. The median sales price also rose +7% month over month to $413,500. This data is prone to significant revisions over time, however, so we won’t declare the slump in housing dead just yet.

New Home Sales Way Up, KB Home & StitchFix Report

Kroger (KR) came out with quarterly earnings of $1.04 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1 per share. This compares to earnings of $0.93 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.
This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of +4.00%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this supermarket chain would post earnings of $1.45 per share when it actually produced earnings of $1.49, delivering a surprise of +2.76%.
Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates three times.
Kroger, which belongs to the Zacks Retail - Supermarkets industry, posted revenues of $33.94 billion for the quarter ended July 2025, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.54%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $33.91 billion. The company has not been able to beat consensus revenue estimates over the last four quarters.
The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.
Kroger shares have added about 9.6% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500's gain of 11.1%.

Kroger (KR) Tops Q2 Earnings Estimates

Gap (GAP) came out with quarterly earnings of $0.57 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $0.55 per share. This compares to earnings of $0.54 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.
This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of +3.64%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this clothing chain would post earnings of $0.44 per share when it actually produced earnings of $0.51, delivering a surprise of +15.91%.
Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates four times.
Gap, which belongs to the Zacks Retail - Apparel and Shoes industry, posted revenues of $3.73 billion for the quarter ended July 2025, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.38%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $3.72 billion. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates three times over the last four quarters.
The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.
Gap shares have lost about 5.6% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500's gain of 10.2%.
